Patti Nelson was awarded the title of Miss CHS by the faculty of Carolina. She was selected on the basis of scholarship, leader- ship, responsibility and quality of character. Patti was active in such clubs as the National Honor Society, the cheerleading squad, the prom committee, and the Civinettes. Patty also added a spirited at- mosphere to the school during the Christmas season by being selected as Miss Merry Christ- mas. The Furman University Scholars were determined by the PSAT scores. and may be eligible for scholarships to Furman. The Fur- man Scholars this year were Ed- ward Frazier and Teresa Powell. a time for us The Graduation ceremony for the Class of l98I was held at the Memorial Auditorium on June I, l98I. Valedictorian was Julie Teal, who presented a speech centered around the theme A Time For Us. Lisa Marler, salu- tatorian, also presented a speech. Lisa Rickard provided music, and Sandra Pitts closed the ceremony with prayer. Graduation night was a very special time for the Class of l98l because everyone was awarded a diploma for the twelve long years of hard work. This night also marked the beginning of a new lifes a life of marraige, a life of a new job, or a life of higher education. Wherever the future leads the graduates of l98l, their memories of Carolina High School will live forever. I. Lisa Marler, Salutatorian, presents her speech to the attentive graduates. 2. Choosing one person as Coach's Choice for the l982 Varsity Bas- ketball Team was virtually im- possible for Coach Tony Poole. Seniors Donnie Mann, Terrun Smith, and John Bailey were his top three. Veronica Wharton was Coach Betty Moore's choice player on the I982 Girls' Basketball team. Veronica led the conference in scoring and proved to be a great asset to the team. The Baptist College of Charles- ton offered scholarships to ju- niors who scored high on the PSAT.
