crowning of a queen Y - f N w ii. ,F,....-tm., ...Q m y . . . .,:'- va rf , The l98l Miss Carolina Pageant was climaxed by the crowning of Traci Weaver as Miss Caroli- na. The talented junior, a dance student for fourteen years, danced her way to the crown to the tune of Mr. Bigshot. She also impressed the judges by modeling a lovely pink dress and white hat in the casual wear competition, and a rose-pink off-the-shoulder evening gown with a rhinestone-spangled drape in the formal wear com- petition. First runner-up was Kelli Israel. who sang the Bette Midler favorite My Mother's Eyes. Teresa Trammell, who performed a splendidly choreo- graphed toe ballet dance to Overture from the musical Oklahoma, received the Second Runner-Up and the Grand Talent award. The contestants in the pageant selected Carol Crowe as Miss Congeniality. The Non- Finalist Talent Award was given to La-Shella Griffin, who recited the dramatic monologue Ego Trippin'. Page I58 I.
