August l5, the Trojans took to the gridiron to begin practice for the l962 fall season. After 3 long weeks of grueling practice, the Trojans traveled to Palmetto where they punched across two touchdowns to dump the Mustangs l4-O in the season's opener. ln a defen- sive battle, the Greenville Red Raiders edged the Trojans 7-O in a game at Sirrine Stadium that was close all the way. Neither team could get a good offensive drive going. The following week the Trojans, striking twice in the first period and turning in some excellent defensive play the second half, toppled the Wade Hampton Gen- erals. Unlike the preceeding week, the Trojans could do nothing right as they dropped a 48-O decision to the powerful AA State Champion Easley Greenwaves. Taking revenge after the Easley defeat, the Trojans marched to a touchdown in every quarter as they over- powered the Chapman Panthers 27-6. The following week the Trojans downed the District Six Hornets 20-6. The Trojans held only a 7-6 edge at the half, but scored twice in the third quarter to clinch the victory. Hoping to extend its winning streak, the Trojans next dropped the Blue Ridge Panthers 24-O. The Trojans were nursing a 6-O lead at the half, but like the previous week they played an excellent second half to insure the victory by scoring three more touchdowns. Attempting to make it 4 wins in a row, the Trojans succeeded by smothering the hapless Hillcrest Rams 41-6. The Trojans scored 3 touchdowns each half to give an overall 6-2 record in their first eight games. Lady Luck turned her back on the Trojans as the Byrnes Rebels took advantage of a Trojan fumble on the lO yard line and scored, but 7 Carolina came back with an equalizer in the third per- iod. The Trojans fought for the winning marker in the closing minutes and penetrated deep into Rebel territory. But the Trojans fumbled the ball and the Rebels re- covered in the end zone to kill the threat as the game ended in a 7-7 tie, ln the next game, Carolina could not stop the Parker airel attack as the Golden Tornado edged the Trojans 21-19 in the annual Lion's Bowl game. The Trojans drew first blood as they scored on the third play from scrimmage, but trailed 2l-l2 at the half. Carolina came plunging back after intermission with the only touchdown in the second half. However, Parker was never certain of their margin until the final gun went off. The Trojans's deep penetration into Parker territory in the last minute was hampered by two l5 yard penalties. The Trojans missed on a field goal attempt on the final play. lt was a disheartening game for the Carolina players and fans. ln the final game of the season Carolina was defeated by the Pick- ens Blue Flame 2l-O. This year's football team showed great spirit this season and with much hard work, came through with a good record-7 wins, 4 losses, and l tie. The coaches deserve a large portion of the credit for all the effort and time they spent on the field helping the boys turn in a good football recgrd, Leqding the Trojans for the third season was head coach Ted Yakimowicz and our new assistant coach Ted Loth. There were some great victories and hard losses but the purpose of the game was always there-to develop the boys physically, men- tally, morally, and socially.
