A That Cheer Them L To Victory In The School 4 ' That Coro Built Dick Hamilton, junior guard, sank 133 tal- lies for runner-up 110110139 Derek Romain, top defersive player, contributed 117 points. Dar- ryl Tubbs and Jerry Walden, playing their last, connected for 76 and 64 points, respectively. With the area's largest gym, Caro was awarded the Class B and D District Touma- menis. StamatS Gymnasium was also the scene of the first annual Christmas Holiday To1u'na.ment. Cass City and St. Mary's of Bay City won the district crowns and Croswell- Lexington captured the Holiday Tourney championship. Coach Carl Bowma.n's Bombers compiled the best record among C. H. S. squads with nine victories and four losses. Caro broke even in six league contests. In non-league action, the Tigers set back all opponents, in- cluding F airgrove with a no-hit effort by Jim Storm and Jerry Mis. Caro entered the Mt, Plenant Baseball Tournament and swept into the inals before faltering 4-3 to Durand in the championship glnlen While Caro Scored 73 runs in its thirteen games, opponents were able to score only 34 times off the pitching of Jerry Mis Q4-21 and Jim Storm Q5-21. Senior shortstop Ray Kurtansky led the regu- lars with a ,313 batting average 5 junior Wayne Lassitor also hit a .300 clip. The team average was .243. Tiger tracksters spent most of the season eating the dust of opponents. Only the 250113 of Jim Storm, Derek Romain, Dale Kitchen 2-Hd Stu Weiland kept the squad in the league. Cam finished fourth in the Thtunb B. Meet with 37 112 points, trailing champion Cass City, 95 113 points, Frankenmuth 60 113 points, and Vassar, 39 points. . Storm, Romain, and Kitchen gave the Tigers the best trio of hurdlers in the conference. Storm won the high hurdlers and was second in the lows in the Thumb B. Meet. In the Regional Meet at Marysville, Storm won the low hurdles, placed fourth in the highs and tied for third in the high jump.

These Are The BOYS Who Play The Sports That Draw The Crowds Cass City continued its dominance of the Thumb B, Conference, sweeping all four championships for the second straight year. The Red Hawks now have won ten consecutive titles, dating back to their second-place Hnish behind Marlette in the 1956-57 basketball race. Despite lack of size, the 1958 varsity football squad finished the season with a winning record and a creditable third place in the league standings. Coach Don Stamais' thirtieth Tiger gridiron team scored 91 poinis to league opponents' 89. The non-conference defeat to Lapeer was the last game between the old rivals. Further pre- ga.me openers with the Panthers have been can- celled because of La.peer's gowth no a Class A school. Senior quarterback Bob Moore sparked the offense for the second year with nine touchdowns and one conversion. The speedy 135-pounder was named to the Thumb B. first team with teammates Don Jacob, center, and Ivan Young, guard. Half-back Darryl Tubbs, who scored three touchdowns to cap his prep gidiron play, was selected half-back on the All-Area second team along with Moore by the Saginaw News. The 1958-59 cage season marked the it'irs't change in Thumb B, Conference membership since its founding in the fall of 1952. Yale and Croswell-Lexington dropped from the league be- cause of the distance they had to travel. Franken- muth 'oined the remaining schools of Caro, Cass City, llassar, Bad Axe, Sandusky and Marlette to compose the new, seven-team league. Coach Clare McDm-mon's varsity basketball squad lacked the scoring punch to compose a winning team. The six-place Tigers, who averaged only 39 points a game while allowing 45 112 points, scored the least number of tallies in the conference. Jim Storm led the Tigers' scoring attack with 254 points.
