PHYSICAL PLANT A large and diverse university such as Carnegie-Mellon requires constant care and maintenance. With the additions of the University Computing Center and modifications to Skibo, as well as the recent acquisition of parts of the Bureau of Mines, Physical Plant's responsibilities have increased greatly in the last few years. From installing the clock on the Cut to changing locks on students' dorm rooms to maintaining the university grounds, the employees of Physical Plant are always on the move. CASHIER’S OFFICE The buck passes here at the Cashier's Office. Using automated records, the office maintains the status of students' university accounts and manages the bi-weekly payroll as well. Due to the great size of the annual budget, there is always work to do a the Cashier's Office. 25

 REGISTRAR’S OFFICE From scheduling classes to maintaining grades and class lists and semester billings, the Registrar's Office performs a nearly infinite number of tasks. Registrar Richard Rainsberger heads the department which, every semester, must register nearly four thousand students, and stay on top of many individual problems. ALUMNI RELATIONS The Alumni Relations Office recognizes that alumni constitute a valuable resource for the university. Their main purpose is to foster a good working relationship between alumni and the current university population. Through various activities coordinated by the office, highlighted particularly by its periodical and Homecoming festivities, alumni are encouraged to communicate with present students and help in the development of the university. 24

HEALTH SERVICES The Health Services Office, newly located on the first floor of Morewood Cardens E Tower, includes full-time services for medical and counseling needs. The present office was integrated one year ago, in the combination of the Counseling Center with the Health Center. The staff includes several full-time nurses and two part-time physicians, as well as several psychologists for the counseling department. CAMPUS POLICE The university, due to its large size and highly specialized equipment, requires a full-time security force which must oversee numerous different events each and every day. The department maintains all security at the university, and employs several skilled policemen for the job. 26
