The College of Humanities and Social Sciences developed a new Core Curriculum which was tested by all of the H SS freshmen this year. The Core, consisting of sixteen courses in five clusters, was designed with the objective of providing students with a common base of skills, concepts, and knowledge upon which advanced studies can be built. However, the program has not been well received by the students, as many have expressed disappointment and frustration with the restrictions the Core imposes. Lester Lave. Head. Economics

Robert S. Taylor. Acting Head. Architecture Orville M. Winsand. Head. Art Fine Arts has been making headlines on two major issues this year. First, there is the continuing search for a permanent head of the Architecture department. Robert Taylor has been acting head since Delbert Highlands resigned the position in June of 1976. Three candidates have been offered the position and have turned it down. Dean Midani says the search will continue, but it is expected to take quite a while to find a new head. The dropping of music education from the curriculum of the Music Department caused much controversy. Robert Page, the head of the Music Department announced the department needed more specialization and a choice had to be made between the performance option and the education option. The announcement was met with severe criticism from the students and a painted fence. The Design Department has made plans for a Senior Show this year. Last year the show was cancelled due to lack of organization.
