because we reside in an impenetrable fortress stand in lines to receive our rations finding the Answer every morning on the end of a tea-bag. . . A factory because we have committed ourselves to a sort of professionalism of robot-like response . . . An institution of technology and final products that seems to sacrifice the process for the result. . . Demanding performance, refusing to pamper the temper: preaching excellence in one's field before well-roundedness, producing the medieval closet case . . . relinquishing high basketball scores to the players' high factors . . . Through pressure and conditioning we become involved intimately in the unreality of pure knowledge . . . We are forced to objectify that knowledge from life: and. having detached it can no longer find it functioning and living within us . . .

But sometimes we find a personalization . . . There is a faith in our minds, our moments . . . There is the professor who knows our names and stays after class to answer our questions; and the president who advocates beer-and-cheese . . . The faculty, the administration . . . They destroy and expose or. maybe. help us in our own destruction and exposition, stopping just to extract from us the one concept the one moment-of-genius to play with it and give it back a bit more refined . . . There is a knowing in us that they know us that they understand where our careless fun ends and our Unwind begins . . . Although we would never admit it. . . they've been there and back . . . 10
