Freshman Camp We enter laughing . .. We begin anxiously, hopefully, fearfully, joyfully ... We start with singing, playing, dancing... We start with Freshman Camp, with a spirit and a vitality and a shared vision of things-to-come ... We gain from our counselors —under the leadership of Nate Leblang a little guidance, a little goofiness ... Life looks new and we spend three days frolicking in our own exuberance and expectations ... We are surprised and relieved at how much we like one another, and we join hands and hopes ... Camp is its own special world ... We jump and run and swim and dance in the warmth of its sun or the wetness of its rain ... We are glad to be here, glad in the slap-happiness of today, glad in the rich promise of tomorrow. . . 4 6

The Adam tackling Tacitus ... The Eve enraptured, bombarded by forces of discipline and knowledge ... are conditioned into cynics who decide the freedom, the burst of innocence ... And the paradox ... These conditional molecules ... cynical... will in time thru the very same educational force free themselves ... to become atoms against atoms of innocence ... of a higher sort... a sort that creates and appreciates ... that finds that special character of a building ... that sees a buggy judged in its own center-of-orientation ... its wheel ... and focus upon the individual... the freshman ... Is he not the atom of innocence fused and fissioned forming an element, a human element of elemental purity and perception ... refined ... The Creative Eye And Mind ... 5
