And A Beginning September ... it starts ... the first day of school ... for Seniors . .. learn- ing how to be the leaders ... for Juniors ... competing to be best ... for Sophomores ... trying to find out where you are, and how to get to where you're going ... So everybody adjusts ... we get used to . .. saluting the flag in the morning .. . trying to hear announcements when everybody's screaming ... getting a drink when there's zero water pressure ... breathing in the girls' room at lunchtime ... standing behind the gate till it's time . .. getting called to 106 even though we didn't skip ... missing an A by one point ... taking a shower and getting the hair wet ... Then we do little things like . . . decorate our lockers ... say Hi to people in the hall ... sneak into the lunchline ... borrow a pencil . . . write our name on the desk ... make a poster for the dance ... be 29 seconds late for class ... Some- times we like it ... a lot of times we don't ... but anyway .. . here we are ... 5 days a week ... 7 hours a day ... till June ... a lot can happen. 7

1970 — An Ending . . . Empty building ... a little spooky ... a little sad ... waiting for the kids to come ... running ... laughing ... yelling .. . tripping ... swearing thinking .. . daydreaming . .. planning .. . working ... wishing they were somewhere else . .. but being there ... just as they've been for many years ... But today is different special ... the building ... still wait- ing ... but these kids . . . will be the last ... after this ... no more Carnegie High School . . . next year . .. jointure .. . Carnegie ... Crafton .. . Rosslyn Farms ... Carlynton . .. new building . . . new kids ... so the building waits ... for the last time ... to see that last bunch ... to hold their classes ... dances ... ball games ...plays ... and everything ... remembering the past .. . looking forward ... but living for today ... 1970. iiiitimiiiiiiiiiiii 6

Things get underway ... football season starts . .. high hopes ... this year'll be better than last year ... season starts the same ... two losses ... (one later won by default ... South Fayette forfeited ... one of their players too old) ... but this year something's different ... maybe it's that everybody knows it’s the last CHS football team .. . there's a will to win ... from the players ... the coaches ... the fans ... spirit everywhere ... what we lack in might ... we make up in fight .. . after first two ... Carnegie wins ... more fans come to games .. . they see Little Tartans who fight ... completed passes ... long runs traditional goal line stands ... good block- ing and tackling ... great defense ... even half time shows seem better ... pride in those kilts ... highpoint of any half-time show . . . CHS Kiltie Marching Band special shows ... The Weather Show ... Joe DiNardo, guest announcer ... ''we were almost on TV” ... more dance steps ... popular songs ... fire batons ... umbrel- las and rainbows ... half-time adds so much to CHS spirit . . . and the team . . . seems bigger and better every week ... faithful fans follow team to away games ... some- times we freeze ... get lost ... who cares .. . straight wins ... Did you see the article about us in the Press? ... one of 4 schools left in Section A ... call it spirit ... or fight ... or pride ... or whatever you call it ... it's a great way to end a football history.
