Each member of the team is required to belong to the National Rifle Associa- tion. This organization provides ammunition and targets for the team. Seniors: Left to Right: Sembrat, Litvak, Speca, Boyda, Hegeman The golf team this year is quite fortunate in having five returnees from last year's squad. Roger Sernbrat, Paul Litvak, Jack Boyda, Tom Medwig, and Raul Hege- man have gained some much needed experience by parti- cipating in all of last year's matches. A newcomer, Francis Linkesh, is also expected to aid the team this season. The team travels to various courses throughout the district to compete. The home games are played at the Chartiers Valley Country Club. This year, the team will compete in Section VI of the W. P. I. A. L. Mr. Zaney will coach the team this season, and is looking forward to a very successful year. Left to Right: Austin, Jack Knarr, Grove, Dey, Jim Knarr, Briant, Cole. Seniors: Grove, Dey. This year for the first time, Carnegie High School in- troduced a new varsity sport - tennis. Although a team has not as yet been organized, the prospective members which are pictured above have had a great deal of ex- perience by participating in local matches. Many of the boys placed among the top in such tournaments as the Western Pennsylvania Junior Championship, the Edge- worth Club Junior Invitational Tournament, and the Richland Township Tournaments. Jim Knarr, -lack Knarr, and Roy Austin were members of the Junior Davis Cup Squad. The tennis team is sponsored by Mr. Bandyk. New tennis courts will be constructed for the team as soon as possible. Dedication We, the class of 1959, dedicate our year- book to you, Miss Cochran, in appreciation for all that you have done for our school. During your 29 years of teaching at Carnegie High, you have done a wonderful job in our com- mercial department. You have always taught your students the fine points of a commercial education and instilled in them many of the sterling qualities that you possess. Your char- acter sets an excellent example for all. Not only have you been a wonderful teach- er and friend to all the students in the class- room, you have been a loyal supporter of the students by your attendance at all outside ac- tivities, whether it be a football game or the Senior Dance. This may have been to you in- significant, but it meant very much to us to know that a teacher took such an interest in her students and the teaching profession. It made us quite happy to see you sitting on the sidelines. Through the years, you have been of great assistance to many groups, especially the sen- ior classes which you have sponsored. Last year, for example, you have taken over the sponsorship of the Progressive Tri-Hi-Y and helped it to grow and prosper. For these things and many others, we thank you, Miss -Cochran, and we are glad that some- one else has come to love you as much as we have. We wish for you all the joy and happi- ness that married life can bring. Although you will leave us next year, we will remember you always. First Row: Skirpan, Sharanevych . Student Directors. It was on these nights that they presented their play, Thunder on Sycamore Street. The play centered around an ex-convict, joe Blake, who moved to Sycamore Street. The people on this street did not want Mr, Blake to continue living there. The play tells about the plans of the people of Sycamore Street to persuade joe Blake to move from his house. In the end, however, the people realize that what they had been planning was wrongg Joe Blake remains in his home and wins the friendship of the people in the neighborhood. Many hours were spent in practicing, learn- ing lines and rehearsing scenes of the play. For a while, Mr. Clawson, our director, as well as members. of the cast, thought we would never make it. However, when the curtain closed after the last act, we were sure that it had been a great success. With the help of this play, the seniors were able to add about 35240.00 to their treasury and many pleasant hours to their memories. Senior Prom Our Senior Prom was held on a snowy Friday evening, December 19. The ballroom was georgeously decorated in the theme of Silver Bells. The colors progressed from a glimmering silver to a deep rose. Johnny Carr and his orchestra provided a wonderful selection of rhythmic and romantic arrange- ments. At 10:15 the queen of our Senior Prom, Roberta Gessler, was crown- ed. At 12:00 we proceeded to Dave Wright's Seafood Inn for a late supper, after which we returned to the ballroom and danced until morning. The memories of that night will long be remembered by all as a night of high excitement and ro- mantic enchantment.
