Last September at Carnegie High a group of young men and women entered into a new phase of their lives They had yust completed eight long hard years of preliminary training and were beginning a new course of studies which every young ambitious person destined for success should encounter They were the freshman class of 43 and 44 At the start high school life seemed hard and complicated to them but they quickly became accustomed to it They were getting along very well when all of a up The different organizations and clubs came into life The football team began its workouts and a number of boys from the freshman class joined it This sudden turn of events caused some of the pupils to forget their studi s but the six weeks tests brought them back to mind After THE RISING GENERATION surmounting this unexpected difficulty the freshmen realized that a semester in high school was not as easy as they had thought it to be During this period of time the teachers got to know the students and soon came to know what to expect of them The mayority of the boys and girls showed their willingness to cooperate with the teachers and very few had a different attitude About this time the wrestling season began As usual a fine team was built up through the guidance of Mr Sawhill A unteered for practice and they proved to be worthy members of the team As the letters were given out two proud fresh man boys Frankie Cerasini and Harry Rinehart stepped forward to receive their well deserved prizes for the work they had done In other activities the boys and 'pw , , , . . . . , , . 3 , I , ' ' 1 3 , . 7 . . , sudden a host of different activities sprang number of boys from the ninth grade vol- ' 1 i 1 . 9 ' . . , . . . .0 . , . ur , - I , A STARTS THE LONG TREK girls of the class were well represented Fred Rahner one of our energetic boys made the B Squad of the basketball team a great honor for a boy of his age Pro gressmg through the late winter and early spring months the freshmen had a very active time taking part in the publication of the See helping on the staff of the Voyager turning out to the remaining Library On May 29 the event of most interest to all freshmen occurred It was the fresh man party sponsored by Miss Biddle Al most all of the boys and girls attended this event for freshmen only The mistress of ceremonies was Dorothy Uram and she did a fme job of conducting the program Different pupils demonstrated speclal skills in their chosen arts and many of the students were surprised to discover what their fellow students could do in the way of entertainment Refreshments were served and part of the evening was spent in dancmg The music was provided by re c rds All in all the party turned out to be a huge success Still thmkmg about the wonderful time they had had the fresh men turned to more serious busmess The final examinations were coming and each through with flymg colors All but a very few did so but these unhappy ones plan to make up what they have not accomplished this year As the year closes the class looks back on a year of joy heartache and toil a year which will stand high in the hearts of these students a year which will never be equaled in the remaining years which they are to live I D - , . .l E , l y ' . - . - .
