AND OUR PRINCIPAL H. HOWARD LEE The senior class and the Voyager staff deserve special recognition this year as they have estab- lished two recordsg namely, an all-time high in commissions from the sale of magazine subscrip- tions, the proceeds of which are used in the fi- nancing of this volume, and the largest number of l'oVyr1gi'r' sales to students in any year since publication began in 1925. May you, the members of the senior class, carry this energy with you as you enter .mother phase in life's journey. Iiach should carefully consider hoyv he or she may be of the greatest possible service in the present emergency. If you have ability to serve better by continuing your education. you should determine to avail youivelt of this opportunity or malye such an on- portunity for yourself. The United States Navy is begging for one ul'- g hundred thousand men with naval officer's training during the next two years. Sixty thou- sand student nurses must be enrolled during the coming school year. Five thousand pharmacists are needed for an army of three million eight hundred thousand. There is a tremendous short- age in supply officers for the army and navy. In fact, in our present mechanized war, seventeen men are needed in essential services for every man on the firing line. If you have the talent to prepare for one of these or other desperately needed branches of civilian or military service, it is your patriotic duty to do sog and yve trust many of you may show your loyalty in your determination to pre- pare for nrthing less than the highest type of service you are capable of giving in this emer- gency. .-if 3 NIISS IDLUIIOTIIY XYFST, sec- retary to the Superintendent dur- ing the first semester ol the 1341- 1942 school year: MISS BESSIF RIfl.SO, secretary to the Principal: MISS IfV,X BIJXCKA-X, secretary to the Superintendent during the sec- tnd semester of the year. thirteen

TIMELY WORDS FROM OUR SUPERINTENDENT Th' ' ' ' is message comes to you in the midst oi the gravest crisis of our history. In this time of peril, the work of our public schools must not be cur- tailed or neglected. Our free schools were estab- lished for the preservation and the functioning of our democratic form of government. With- out the work of the schools, we should lose the very things we are fighting to preserve. XV4: dare not sell the day to serve the hour. This means that the public, regardless of cost or sac- rifice, will continue to provide you with the opportunity to secure .1 high school education. In view of these facts. your duty is clear. You can serve your country best by doing each day's work to the best of your ability and by rernain- ing in school until you have finished your course. The student who wastes his time is failing his country as surely as the soldier who fails to do NORMAN L. GLASSFR his duty on the firinv line, Try honestl and 'onf I , 1 v c sistently to meet your CULlI'lII'ylS challenge.
