Board of Education DR. H. R. WILSON MR. W. C. KEARTON MR. GEO. MCFARLAND MR. N. L. GLASSER MR. R. F. BIG!-IAM, JR. - MR. K. R. W. RAMSEY MR. C. B. NIXON MR. CASE A. FOSTER, JR. MR. CHAS. E. 'WALLIS N july 15, 1896, the Board of 'Education of Carnegie entered into an agree' ment with the Wo1nan's Christian Temperance Union for the lease of its building for a period of three years as quarters for the Carnegie High School. This building was located on'the street now known as Elk Avenue on the site ncw occupied by the Elks' Hall. The Board, at this time, was composed of the following men: S. S. McCaughan-President, John L. Drake, George A. Marsh, Henry Mathews, George M. ,Carnahan, D. C. Turney---Secretary. On July 29, 1896, Thomas J. George was elected frincipal of the Carnegie High School. On September 4, 1896, Mr. George, gepoiltegi the school well started with an enroll' ment of sixtyfthree students and at theiisame meeting asked for an assistant. This request was granted and Miss Flbrence P. Davis of Asbury Park, New Jersey, was elected as an assistant to Mr. Geoff? These gleanings from the minutes of the Board give a brief, but accurate account cf the founding of our school. During the forty years since the opening of the school, a long succession of capable, earnest, devoted citizens have given their services as members of the Board. The student body has increased from sixtyfthree to seven hundred and the faculty has grown from two members to twentyftwo. The present Board of Education and the Superintendent are vitally interested in the welfare of the school. Our ambition is to carry on the fine spirit of devotion shown by those who have served in administrative capacity during the past forty years. We take this opportunity to congratulate the staff, sponsors, and students on the Voyager of 1936. President f Dr. H. B.. Wilson VicefPresident William C. Kearton Secretary f George McFarland Superintendent Norman L. Glasser .,g, 4. WW U 1 1-yn., . ,- -rf S 5' .ali .54
