Mr. Norvell Lewis of Maine Central Institute was the spelling master. East Corinth won the trophy, and Ardyss Cougle of East Corinth was the champion speller. Representing Carmel were: Bonnie Thibeau, Ronald Jarvis Jr., Beverley'Basford, and Parker Argent Jr.. Gerry Ross and Jane Speed were alternates. There were twentyeeight spellers in the contest---four from each school. The first one to misspell a word took his seat and was given the number twentyheight, the seco d, twenty-seven, and so on, until all had taken their seats. The school with the lowest total won. ' SENIOR CLASS TRIP Thanks to the Seniors' Mothers Club the Seniors left on their class trip Thursday, April 23, at 8 p m We changed buses in Boston and stopped several times before reaching New York We arrived in New York around 8 a m Friday We rested in the lobby of the Taft Hotel until 9 30 at which time we checked into our rooms The first thing on our agenda was the television show 'The Price Is Right H After the show we went to lunch at the Waldorf Cafeteria In the afternoon we took the subway to the Battery and a ferry to the Statue of Liberty Next was another ride on the subway to Fifth Avenue We went to the top of the Empire State Building and to comple+e the afternoon we went back to the hotel for a little rest before supper able evening Saturday morning after breakfast we were off to the United Nations for a guided tour through that building After this trip we broke up into groups and went to see things of interest among whlch were Yankee Stadium and a ball game, the Museum of Arts and Sciences, and Macy's for a little shopping Saturday evening was our own, most of us went souvenlr hunting At 10 p m we left New York for Carmel Sunday morning after breakfast and just barely on our way we had a flat tire west of Scarboro, which made us two hours late ln getting home All in all we had a very good tlme and we wish to extend our many thanks to our chaperones, Mr and Mrs Linwood Bowen Mrs Helen Bonder, Mr Chellis Smith, and Mr and Mrs Paul Foss Duane L Small '59 9 In the evening we went to Radio City Music Hall for an engoy- I C , SENIOR CLASS TRIP PICTURES 4-milf u-in '----1-........ With a heavy loss at graduation the team will have a building year in '60 but should come through well for the maroon and gold.
