The third year of our high school career rolled around and, with the beginning of our senior year, we still had that terrible reputation of being a lazy, no- good class that only liked to party and hated any form of work. ln our sophomore year, Throw 'Em to the Hounds, our pride and joy, our creaky, wobbly contribution to Home- coming, received a third place. Not too bad, huh? fThere were only three floats in the competitionlj Last year, as juniors, we came up with Tighten the Titansn- quite an acceptable float in our eyes. The judges, however, didn't see things our way. The Sophomores were the winners, and with that win came dis- grace to us a second year in a row. Sophomores aren't sup- posed to win, especialy when they're competing with juniors and seniors! Someone failed to tell them thot. But we had moved up one notch, finishing a close second. Homecoming of 1978, our last chance for success, was now upon the Senior Class. Would we continue our losing streak, or could we possibly break the spell and graduate knowing that we weren't a complete failure as a class in high school? As float ideas came pouring in and the theme S'Flush the Pirates was decided upon, our hopes brightened. This time, we were determined to win. It didnit matter how many times we stapled our fingers together, or that we had fluffed thousands of white paper napkins. For two weeks we spent our evenings at the lce Skadium, instead of at our desks. Grades began to suf- fer drastically. We were too tired to study. We would not accept anything less than first place. When the floats were brought out of hiding and onto Main Street for the Homecoming pa- rade, we knew we had done our best. The judges gave us first place honors for our toilet! -A Senior
