MARCHI C TC THE BAND It's seven o'clock on a chilly, foggy September morning. The sound of Mr. Blue's whistle is heard and once again faithful band members fall into order on the parking lot. As the cold air hits my face, thoughts travel back to similar days. Days when the air was stifling and the temperature hit a sizzling 930. A summer of Kool-aid, Band- aids, shouted commands, aching muscles, fun drills, and band camp fill my mind. The work and the sweat-what was it for? August 23-Band Day! Some- times it was hard to remember why I was putting myself through agony. I was always jolted back to reality by the choice remarks of Mr. Blue, Mr. King, and Mr. Loveall: Band, that was elstinkyln Keep Plug- gin ' My grandmother could march better than that! !'You looked better last Wednesday! 6'Well, that was good . . . but it wasn't great! You are a great band, we know it, you know it, now let's show the judges. Yes, and we did show the judges! We stunned the crowds in the morning and dazzled the judges with our night perfor- mance. Glowing proudly in our new uniforms, we had done our best. We sent shivers down the spine. With our heads held high, we carried the fifth place trophy home to Carmel.
