C4155 Mop ec? As I walk down the streets of Carmel again after being away for ten years, it really seerns strange. There have been so many changes. Gee, there's the post-office. It really has changed since Frank Key became head postmaster of Indiana. He has made it a first-class post-office. Look at that building! Why that's the old bank. lt's changed a lot since I saw it last. It now covers a complete block. Let's see what that sign in the window says. Oh yes, Robert E. Wilber, President. I always knew he would someday become a great man even though he always was so quiet in school. Since I'm in Carmel, I might as well visit the dear old high school. Ah yes, I remember the days well when I attended there. From what I've heard, Philip Ramsey, another old classmate, is now the trustee. Following right in his father's footsteps: Another pal of Sl is also connected with the high school. Of course you all remember him. He played pro basketball for five years. He became famous as the only ball player ever to make one hundred baskets in one game, but now he's the C. H. S. coach. Naturally I mean Jerry Bender. After talking to him, I discovered that his two buddies from the old class had also become famous. Dwight Trautvetter was recently awarded the Ladies Man award by the Old Maid Club of the United States. Dwight hasn't changed much. Becoming governor of the state brought fame to Norman Cox, and by the state, I mean Texas. Norman entered politics way back in school when he was elected President of the Senior Class. Back on the streets again, I realize that there are many new buildings added. For instance, there's a hos- pital now. You probably remember the girl who's head nurse. Another graduate of Sl -- Annis West. Annie always did have a way with people and even though she was the only person ever to play three songs at once on the piano, she still prefers nursing. Speaking of music reminds me of another classmate, Donna Lou Donahue. You know that Donna has her own orchestra now. She plays at all towns where pro basketball is played. She does this in order to keep up with her husband who also graduated from C. H. S. only a year ahead of our dear old class. Two other girls from the class who are married and living happily on their farms are Mildred Hadley and Jeanne Johnson. You knew that the girls mar- ried brothers, didn't you? And one of these brothers was also a graduate of Sl, This could be no one but Merle Frank. Many of the graduates have gone into business or own a business them- selves. For instance, Jim Gregg and Pete Reed now own a chain of jet plane garages from coast to coast. These guys started out by opening hot-rods garages and then they extended their line to jet planes. One of their mechanics is an old friend, too. His name is Jerry I-Ienricks. Donna Miller now owns Murphy's Ten Cent Stores which also run from coast to coast. Recently the award for painting a picture and standing on your head at the same time was presented. This award went to none other than James Marple. In close competition to James was Bonnie Smith. Both were good in art while they were in school. Did I tell you that three of the boys out of the Sl class have gone into a partnership? They never could have any luck farming so they went west to open the world's largest dude ranch. In size it's almost as large as the state of Indiana. Oh yes, these boys are Dwight Shoemaker, Bill Simmerrnan, and Clifford Cotton. 16

Speaking of the West, I happen to remember that another of the graduates is also in the west. By marrying a missionary, Roberta Burgher left her home to live in the West Indies. I guess I'll stop in the drug store, rest a minute, and read a newspaper, Well, what do you know! A girl from the old gang was just chosen Miss America. I mean, of course, Virginia Winkley. On the movie page I see that Bill Russell finally became famous as a movie star. I always knew that his red wavy hair would someday be noticed. I see on the movie page also where Nina Parsley has become one of Holly- wood's most popular hair stylists. And ---- look on the social page! A graduate of Sl is going to be rnarried for the tenth time. lt's really funny, especially since Christine Kelley said she wouldn't marry for a long, long time. I see, too, that Lowell Anderson is suing his multi-millionaire wife for divorce. He claims that she wouldn't buy him a new car to go with every suit of clothes. Of course, with Lowell's looks, he will probably win the case. Delores Bandy is visiting the Hawaiian Islands. It seems she has a very dear friend there with whom she began corresponding while she was in high school. Guess I might as well leave the drug store and continue my tour of Carmel. Jeanette Wilson, who recently was selected as the speediest typist in the world -- 1951 words a minute, owns her own typewriter shop here in the old town. Amos Duncan now owns the wor1d's largest grocery store. He got his start back in school when he began working in the grocery store in Broad Ripple. Another graduate of the old class has just completed her fifth tour of the world in order to gain material for her new book. This girl is Doris Wilson. Golly, I've heard about every member of the Sl class but Don Poole, I wonder whatever happened to him. Well, here comes my bus and guess who is driving it. That's right -- Don Poole. It seems he owns the entire company but he is just driving for the fun of it. Guess I'll be leaving Carmel now. Maybe I'll return soon. 17 ., sin...
