As f, f v 2: w 220 W '54, SENIORS The senior class of 1951 is the only class that has been at Carmel High School for six years. We came up as lowly seventh graders, but as eighth graders we asserted ourselves. We had the school laws changed to permit eighth graders to attend school dances and to vote in student body elections. As underclassmen we were very active. As juniors we sponsored the junior-Senior Prom which was held at the Monterey Peninsula Country Club. Our senior play, Murder in a Nunnery, with Katy Brania and Howard Veit in the leads, was the out- Preslde t CONRAD EGE Vice preszdent MAVIS JONES Secretary LINDA BAIN Treasurer JOHN EDVIONDS LINDA BAIN President KENNETH WIGHTMAN Vzce president N AN CX N UTTER Secretary KATHY SEIPEL Treasurer standing accomplishment of our whole six years. It could never have been done without the co-operation of the entire class and the never failing leadership of Mrs. Brey. The year was climaxed with a Senior Ball and a Senior Barbecue. The senior assembly was a hilarious success. In farewell we wish to thank the faculty, the staff, and the teachers who have advised us, especially Mrs. Down and Mr. Miller, for giv- ing us six wonderful years that will never be forgotten. ll I I IND X MN I mllcrs Club XX ell lllxed C nrls State 3 I SI Pres 4 KIIRISIOPIII R BARNI S Nan man Qu1er I-ootball I llxeable B-XRB-XR-X BI RG I eaders Club Sec 4 Cheerleader Comm of Socnal AITHIFS 3 -Xssured II D BR -XND Qulet Bralnw Colfer KIPIIIIIIIIAICLI I DW INA BROWN N Fddle PePPY Iffiiclent Leaders Club SX I X FSTI R BURK Block C V P 4 gg Football Indn 1dual1st XL DRI-X C-XNIPBI I I -Xrnsnc Comm of Gnrls Athletles I Thoughtful Rallx Club Ix-XTHI RINI BRANIA DONN-X DOUGLAS Rex erend Xlorher Comm of Gnrls Athletxcs 1 Sporty I eaders Club Pres 4 Soelable Relnable Attractu e Kern C CLASS BILI DANIELS XII CC -XL Football Steady Class V P 3 Reserx ed WW 1, I ' If I 9 nfl If W' . , ' AI. This purpose was fulfilled through informal teas. Each class was to prepare a program for such a tea. The Seniors presented a group of girls who explained the clubs in the school for the benefit of new girls. The juniors sponsored a lecture by a representative of the American Association of University XVomen. Thanks to the sponsorship of Miss lVright, the club was quite successful. CS Scholarship for service is the motto of the California Scholastic Federation, and it is the meaning of the SS on the CSF pin. This vear's activities were high- lighted bv a pot-luck supper. cl which proved that intelligent girls are good eooksj, and in the spring, a tour through the campus of the University of California at Berkeley. This year the club members voted to take one four-day week-end for their Yosemite skiing vacation rather than two shorter week-ends. Before the trip was made, several exercise sessions were held for the active club members in order to condition their skiing muscles before they actually reached the slopes. The club purchased ten pairs of skis with safety bindings and accessoriesbthis year for the use and safety of club members. Leaders The Leaders' Club is a service organization of junior and senior girls who are outstanding. This year, in addition to their responsibilities as big sisters to the new girls, and their cafeteria duties, they served at the Youth Center service club lunches and the Block C football banquet. Under the able sponsorship of Nliss Dorothy Wright, the girls enjoyed two progressive dinners. Top to bottom: L. Bain, S. McCloud, Ii. Brown, S. Smith. D. Douglas, B. Berg, B. Horne, D. Lewis, P. Tennis The tennis team under the instruction of their new coach, Mr. Hagadorn, had matches scheduled with all the other schools in the CC.-XL. The eight players who turned out, many of them returning from last year, had a lot of fun and gained a great deal of needed experience. Because of the yearbook deadline the results of the matches could not be given. Go Practicing on the famed Pebble Beach course, this year's golf team, under the capable coaching of Mr. NVestover, played many schools in the CCAL and participated in the CCAL matches in Monterey. Led by the five returning divot diggers, Frans Doelman, Ted Brand, Niels Reimers, Henry Overin, and Kurt von Meier, the boys were enthusiastic and really had a good time as well as playing good golf. This year's speedball tournament was won by the Seniors. lt was a close race all the way, the Sopliomorcs being the surprising team, with their near defeat of the Seniors and their decisive victory over the juniors. The speedball tournament was under the capable management of Diana Horne. Under the captaincy of Elizabeth Yarra, the Senior team added a triumphant note to their Final year of speedball at Carmel. The volleyball tournament was a great success this year. Because of the large turnout, the teams were divided in half so that each class had two teams. Much enthusiasm was shown by the participants. The girls were already in shape for this year's tournament having already played on the noon co-recreational volley- ball teams. ww-fsmwk t ull IS rlxc most pupulu spun spent xx lrh tlv. ll s xr mm s um s 1 1 x alum mums lux , Lll1fCd If loulxcd lllxc 1 Q on 1 l txun ru Sunms IIN u 1 S JIJLL XII thc gnls xxL1L mruurcd md il1I'l1llSllSflL md Lxux unc Ind 1 good tum Xwlfll thc xddltlon of thc mxx SXXIINIHIIIU pool to thc Qumcl Lxmpus sxxnmmmg has bcummc lxclx populu spmt 11110110 thc students Thu fmls plptuncd bclmx me lNCIllhC,IS of thc SXXIIHIHCI s Club luxmff Lomplatcd xll quxllmmtmns for SXXIINIHCFS Thex lmxc p'lSSCd tests III thc three muor UIOLIPS ut mm sxxxmmcrs IDGOIIUICIS md llll'CIl1lCdl'1fCS The lxwhllqht of thc sxx lll1lllll'1Q scxwn xx ws the mtcr dlss SXXIININIIIU' mcct xx hcxc the umorS xx ern the dC,fCI1dlI10' Llmlnpxons I ucxmm s x 'lump X Nurur H Lr' Hui C LK up x f lu 'S Nutru A km' in ,aw .2 M 418 A wxwwqiggxyf 5 Q! 41 I Tennis -X large number of g1rls partlupfared IH the tenms tournament thls x ur The pr 1 gram xx as xxell organlzed and exerxone had fun Those glrls xx ho had not plax ed tenms PI'CX1OllSlX soon learned the baslc fmndlmentals xx 1th the 'nd mf the more ulx meed plqx ers Both singles and doubles mterelass badmmton matches xx ere plax ed th1s Near The ellmax of the season xx lb the nuxed badmmton tournament Lqch Vear thls tourna ment Qams popularltx and pflrtlelpants Y r 5 x I 'SUZPO CDU ,Q f-N I Q-S N Ji' 1 . 51 1 MJ Q .1 Q - N ' R.
