CARLTON HILLS SCHOOL 1967 - 1968 ANNUAL Approximately 900 students started the school year at Carlton Hills. The largest class is grade one, with 110 students. The 68 students in eighth grade make up the smallest class. Stu- dents from other schools and school districts attend Carlton Hills to participate in the visually handicapped and gifted classes. There are thirty teachers on the faculty. The aides, custodians and cafeteria workers total 17. A speech therapist, a nurse, and a guidance consultant work with Carlton Hills students. The faculty and staff at Carlton Hills are assisted in their work by a number of people in the curriculum, business, and pupil services offices. The district superintendent and the board of education have offices in the education center. Carlton Hills School has an excellent library which was com- pleted in 1966. The auditorium was carpeted and remodeled in 1967 and is now used as teaching stations. Students eat pre-packed lunches in their classrooms. The curriculum at Carlton Hills is compatable with the re- quirements of the State Department of Education and sur- passes those requirements in all areas. Spanish is taught as a second language at all grade levels. Curricular experiences result from team planning and team endeavor. Team teach- ing has been the organization for learning for five years in all grades. The school and community have enjoyed a spirit of close cooperation over the years. The Parent-Teacher Association has been and is active in the school community. .1-
