Canlssao, Callfonnla Shaoows WG Cast The Class of 66 is leaving the Lancer campus this year and is taking with it fond memories and a measure of knowledge. It is the Wish of this class to leave its impression of worthwhile qualitites. It is hoped that the shadow the class has cast upon Carlsbad High School during the four years will linger. This shadow started small but grew taller just as the bodies, minds, and spirits that-formed it have grown in stature, We hope each class will benefit from our shadows and find wisdom, tolerance, and love in its depths. is ,T 1? 0 If if taste of Contents , yi wg, 1 QWQE 11 WJLUSE' , E339 .. During the 1965 66 school year, the student leaders developed a school crest which exemplifies the attributes for which the graduates and students of CHS have created and cast as a shadow of their greatness over the fields on which this institution stands. With the shadow of this beautiful crest emblazoned in purple and white, and crowned by a Lancer--students who attend Carlsbad High School will be aware of the true spirit of the school called Carlsbad, and create a shadow of quality for themselves. All regular members must receive a total of ten points on their semester report cards. QAn A is worth 3 pointsg a B is worth 1 point.J One of these points may be earned in extracurricular activities. Regular membership begins in the sophomore year. Associate members include freshmen, and students of other levels who receive nine points. Seniors who have been regular members of CSF for at least four semesters, including one in their senior year, are honored by life membership. These seniors receive a notation of their achievement on their diplomas at graduation. This year CSF sponsored the sale of programs at home basketball games. This project and other money-making activities made it possible for CSF to present its annual scholarship to a worthy student. CSF senior members FIFA Sponsor-- Mr. Darling STANDING: Mr. Darling, P. Elston, The 1965 Carlsbad Lancer football team will long be remembered in the minds of the many loyal CHS fans. The Purple and Whiters ac- cumulated an enviable 9 win 1 loss record and won the Palomar League Championship for the fourth time in five years, by beating the Poway Titans 13-7. In that game Carlsbad's defense held the Titan offense to 16 yards on the ground. In addition to the Palomar League crown, CHS captured the C. I. F. Class A Championship for the third time as the Lancers defeated the Oceanside Pirates 13-12. This was probably the most exciting football game played in this area for many years. Oceanside went into the game as 20 points favored to win the crown. The Lancers, however, had other ideas as CHS D. Lundhagen, R. Langen, G. Bowen, J. Moore. TOP ROW: J. Coe, Coach Lewis, T. Sciortino, D. Kader, S Forman, J. Buckley, D. Kolb, R. Blosch, R. Duran. scored early in the first period to take a 7-0 lead. This lead stood up as the gun ended the first half. In the third quarter Oceanside drove 74 yards to score the extra point attempt, but failed to make the score 7-6 Carlsbad. On the ensuing kick off, Dan Lundhagen ran the ball all the way back to score. fsee page 93.5 This gave the Lancers a 7 point margin. Throughout the remainder of the fourth period neither team could put together a sustained driver. With the score 13-12 the Pirates lined up for their try for the extra point. As the ball was snapped the whole forward line broke through the Pirate defense and Jon Pace managed to get a hand on the ball to block the point attempt to preserve a 13-12 C. I. F. Victory for Carlsbad. Another junior, Tom Coe, high jumped 5'l1 g Senior Craig Moore in the broad jump, senior Carl Humphreys in the 106 pole vault, and senior Jim Bachrach in the hurdles are all returning. Other senior boys returning are Sam Thayer, high jump and Hurdles Ron Russell specializing in both the high and low hurdles. Junior Dan Lundhagen is also returning, as sprinter. In their first meet of the season the Lancer Trackmen placed second in a triangular meet with Vista and Escondido. Both these schools fielded strong teams.
