CARLMQNT HIUH a ' HUUL LIBRARY 1 CARLMONT W Z IZY.IX LIBRARY TAKE A TO LUNCH What does today ' s youth know? Man cannot communicate by word alone, but this is ridiculous. — Aristotle 2 They know direct digit dialing The hip generation, the now generation, the generation that knows where it ' s at . . . that ' s our generation. We ' re more experienced, knowledgeable and aware of what ' s going on than the youth of any other time in history. Why the increase in youth power? MASS COMMUNICATION, that ' s why!! Never before has any one generation been so steered, molded and bombarded into getting the message. Take, for instance, the telephone. The average teenager spends at least one hour on the phone each night catching up on the latest gossip, finding out when Sadie Hawkins is, or describing a breakup with a boy friend. 3 the top 30 Rock Or how about the radio? It not only brings the latest rock and soul, but also the latest contest and how badly we lost last night ' s game. And although most kids don ' t ike to admit it, newspapers, books, and magazines affect us too. Some kids swear by the book of the month, others live for the next scandals in the movie star columns, and still others wait for Playboy. ' Sock it to me ' ... 5 and the human touch generation, we can never forget that the greatest communication man has ever known still exists today — the personal touch. People are still reaching out and talking, touching, and learning from other people. If this communication is lost, humanity will cease to exist. 6 I y ■ r |;I i V p ,1 9t 1 , ' ... it .V ■ V 1 { .V 1 ? i V ■ v ■L . That year, we were scared freshmen, but we were the Class of ' 69. That year the Sock Hop was given in our honor by the senior class. Under the lead- ership of president Bev Owens, vice-president Sue Calder, and secretary-treasurer Georgia LaMantia, we held several successful donut sales and car washes. We even instituted the first pickle sales and sponsored a profitable freshman fun nite. One year later we came back to Carlmont a little older, a little bolder and sophomores. Under president Joe Amable, vice-president Bev Guth, and secretary- treasurer Bev Owens, we once again sponsored the traditional sales days and car washes. We even held Kaleidascope, an all-school dance that featured the Syberian Trenchkoate. Finally it seemed as if we were getting together and we proved it by winning most spirited class during homecoming week. Once again we returned to Carlmont, only this time we were juniors. Under the direction of president Pat Wolfe, vice-president Martha Anderson, and secretary Lynn Grundmeir, we sponsored our first play, My Sis- ter Eileen, and followed up with the usual car washes and donut sales and even won the Christmas tree con- test. Then the moment we had been waiting for so long finally arrived. The junior prom, A Touch Of Magic, saw the crowning of Georgia LaMantia as princess amid the decorations of a far away fairy land and the music of The Midnight Haze. And then it finally happened. We were seniors. The Class of ' 69 ruled Carlmont and the senior lawn. We sponsored the fall play, Once Upon A Mattress, held the traditional sock hop and senior carnival, won the Christmas tree contest and of course, peaked our spirit as a class by winning the megaphone. Then the most memorable evening of our high school career was upon us. That evening, April 26, was the night we held Shalimar, the senior ball at Marine World in Redwood City. Amid the beautiful set- ting of Marine World and the music of The Brotherly Love, we spent an evening we shall never forget. The moment has arrived. The Class of 1969 has fin- ally come to pass. It was a long road filled with many memories and heartbreaks but we made it.
