Under freshman president Andy Sears we became an active class holding many of the football and basketball concessions. In search of an original money-making activity, we decided upon a jelly bean guessing contest around Easter. Guesses were only a penny and the winners won stuffed Easter bunnies. Most of the newness had sorn off as we started our sophomore year. Lack of participation caused our Fun Night to be called off. We realized that our class was lagging behind in spirit, so we set out to restore it. Then, under president Eliot Cowan, we held an all-school dance. Carousel, which pro ed to be a success. Once again we were looking upward. At last we were uppertlassnien with a little more authoiity and a few more privileges. The junior board, under president Mar - Anderson, was more successful in planning its activities. Breaking Sequoia ' s thirty-three game winning streak in football brought an overwhelming amount of spirit back to Carlmont and success to the jun- ior-sponsored Homecoming Dance. The junior class also sponsored the fall play, an English comedy, Sre How They Run. The height of our journey this year came on February 23 — the night of our prom. Our princess, Debby Peterson, reigned over Lei-Sei Fantasi with its atmosphere of San Francisco ' s old Chinatown. We were seniors at last! We started the year off with the traditional sponsoring of the Wel- come Freshman Dane e, which this year was a so. hop. Under the leadership of president Eric McHuron, we became the first class to sell pizza at a Carlmont sales day. All the glory of being seniors was temporarily upset with the assassina- tion of Piesident Kennedy on November 22. Here was one moment of our senior year we would ne ' er forget. The musical. TIk Boy Friend, proved to be a success under our class sponsorship. On April 18 our senior ball. Some Enchanted Evening , was held at the Cabana. Suddenly diploma day ar- rived finding us excited yet somewhat sad. Now we look forward to what lies ahead and say farewell to Carlmont and to those four memor- able vears. MARVIN D. The first step in putting out this book of memories was to dummy on paper a piecise map of each page. The pictures had to be taken, de eloped, sized-up, and pasted down. The Vistas staff wrote, edited, and pasted down the copy. Members of the Vistas staff must be able to develop new and clever ideas, and they must work carefully and quickly in order to meet each of the three deadlines set by the printer. Thr Carlmonitor was published 15 times during the school year, under the very capable direction of Editor Nancy Schwartz and her Assistant, Sharon Gaskell. Certain changes were made this year in the production of the newspaper. Beginning with the tenth issue, the Carlmonitor shifted from letter- press to offset printing. This resulted in an im- pro ed physical appearance, especially in the photographs. The Carlmonitor continued to cover the news thoroughly, and its feature and editorial page provided lively and penetrating reading concern- ing school affairs, as well as providing enter- tainment. 127 Orchestra CARLMONT ORCHESTRA . . .
