Editor 58 1974 REBEL STAFF As editor of the 1974 Annual Staff, I proudly take this time out to thank my staff for a fine year of hard work. The new faces on our staff have proven to he dedicated cadets who have given their time and efforts to making this year’s “Rebel” one of the best yet. Nights of hard work, as well as humor, have filled us all this year. Now we proudly turn our product over to the cadets. We sincerely hope the Corps of Cadets enjoy the 1974 “Rebel”, and that we have inserted some of the memories into the “Rebel”, that will stay in the hearts of the cadets for a long time. Our appreciation goes to the faculty and the administration, who generously offered their cooperation. On behalf of the staff, I would like to wish our very best to the Class of 1974. I hope you all achieve your goal in life, and that you will remember us here at school, for it is inevitable that we will remember you. Above all things that you will have left behind; will be some things that you have said. Goodnight, Jim and Rick. Later— Paul Forio EDITOR .eft to Right: Bricker, Beaudry, Forio, Chapman, ngram. Watson and his staff, for another year of fine reading enjoyment. With the arrival of each addition of the newspaper, all cadets are found reading it, and cutting articles and pictures out. (There is a little conceit in all of us!) Editor, Hank Mixon; and his co-editor, Lonnie Morris; have worked hard this year in order to present us with the best in campus journalism. They have done a fine job. Thank you, gentlemen. LIBRARY STAFF This year, Mrs. Rice and her staff redecorated the library—and moved her office, in order to allow another room filled with reading material for the Cadet Corps. The library staff has done a fine job in helping us to realize the importance and enjoyment of literature in our lives. Congratulations. CERO STAFF The Cero Staff has done a terrific job this year in decorating our “Ballroom”. Under the super- vision of Cpt. James Watson, the Cadets have been able to enjoy a year full of dancing and musical entertainment. This year was a “first” for Cpt. Watson and his crew, and through the cooperation of the administration, they manag- ed to add some “Canteen Parties” to our schedule. Thank you for all you have done, Gentlemen. Their skills are perfected on the gridiron, the basketball court, the rifle range, baseball diamond, the track field, and the drill field. Due to unknown complications, a great number of these outstanding cadets have been left out of this picture. We apologize to these men, and congratulate the entire group on their success in sports. 64 CHESS TEAM Advisor: Cpt. G. Kelly Left to Right: Ouzts, Barber, Bowden, Pete, Cpt. This year, the training cadre was composed of three platoons, with three squads in each platoon. The length of training period depends on how fast the new recruits can learn. It begins two days before the old boys arrive, and ends approximately six weeks later. This year, the Cadre was a success, as it has been since it started in 1956. On the second of September, the new boys were placed under the direction of the Cadre and the training period began. When the training period was finish- ed at the end of the six weeks, the new recruits were then assigned to their com- panies. The Rebel Staff gives great tribute to these men who gave their time to these new boys in order to help them learn their responsibilities and duties. Standing: Mairs, Rivers, Freeman, Topps. These men sweat and bleed to earn our school the proud name of “The Golden Cyclones ’ Off the field, these athletes carry on cadet life in hopes for a better season in the coming year. And we are all sure — “our day will come”. On behalf of the Rebel Staff, I would like to present my admiration to our fine coaches: Greek, Knocky, and fly, for their endless concern and dedication to form a winning ball team. These men are the members of the judicial administration here at Carlisle. Under the supervision of Commander Sullins, these young men hear castes of military misconduct and unbecoming conduct of the cadets. This year, we have had to call on this group only twice, and both times, these men have shown great amounts of concern for the upholding of rules. Thank you, men. 112 CROSS SABRE CLUB The Crass Sabre Club is the group of men who have shown military Leadership in such a manner that they hold the rank of lieutenant and higher. This year, the club consisted of seven Lt.’s, five Captains, the Major, and the LTC; Battalion Commander. The men have their own private shack or “clubhouse”, which is located here on campus. Dues are paid in order to remain in the club, and cookouts are held often. Seated: Mairs, Freeman, Mixon, Rivers, Smith, Topps, Yarborough. RISHER RIFLES Among the companies in the hattallion at Carlisle there is a unique company which consists of the best drilled men in the hattallion. These men strive to perfect their skills in trick drill. Each day, they march to their drill area, and practice their movements, in the hopes of winning in State and National Competition, Last year, the Risher Rifles placed third in the Nation in platoon drill, and placed third in squad drill. This year we look forward to even better accomplishments in Washington. As for local competition, these men have stunned their competitors on the floor, and brought back many trophies for our library. Under the outstanding supervision of Command Sergeant Major John Murray, and the fine leadership of Lt. Jim Grady, these men have proven their talents in trick drill competition. The 1974 Rebel Staff proudly commends each individual for his effort and time put forth to make Carlisle the well known and outstanding school it is. Thank you, men.
