FACULTY LT. COL. JOHN PATTON Col. Patton is originally from Kingstree, South Carolina. He received a B.A. from Erskine College in 1934, and also attended the University of South Carolina. In his 14th year at Carlisle, Col. Patton teaches Economics, Mathematics, and Science. He serves as Asst. Commandant of Cadets and also is in charge of grades. MAJOR CARSON STURGEON Major Sturgeon was born in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He graduated from Furman University with a B.A. degree. Major Sturgeon has been at Carlisle for 25 years and during this time has taught English, French, and Spanish. He is co- ordinator of cadet social affairs and advisor to the CERO. Much of Major Sturgeon’s time is spent with guidance and testing programs at Carlisle, 6

COMMANDANT OF CADETS LT. COL JAMES M. GRIMES Lt. Col. Grimes is a native of Bamberg and a graduate of Bamberg High School. He graduated from Wofford College in 1927 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a commission as an officer in the Army Reserve. He served in the public schools of South Carolina as a teacher and administrator be- fore coming to Carlisle in 1935. In his 33 years at Carlisle, he has served in many capacities, such as teacher, baseball coach, and administrator. At present, he is Commandant of Cadets, a post he has held for 26 years. He also teaches American History. ASSISTANT HEADMASTER LT. COL. WADDY THOMPSON Lt. Col. Thompson was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee and graduate from Notre Dame High School in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Upon gradua- tion from The Citadel in 1942, he became a mem- ber of the Carlisle Faculty. Lt. Col. Thompson served as Professor of Military Science for 24 years and now is Senior Army Instructor under the ROTC program. He is custodian of military property and in charge of drill. Through his efforts the CommiS’ sioned Officers Clubhouse was constructed and he advises the club members in all their projects. 5

MAJOR KARL STOLLER Major Stoller has been at Carlisle for 22 years. Originally from Schenectady, New York, he at’ tended Union College and later received a Masters degree from Yale University. During his time at Carlisle he has taught Chemistry and Science and has served as registrar. MAJOR JACK STEADMAN Major Steadman was born in Chester, South Carolina and received his education from Spartan- burg Jr. College and Wofford College, where he majored in Psychology and Education. Major Stead- man has been at Carlisle for 16 years. During this time he has been instructor of English and Typing. He also serves as Registrar and advisor to the Non-Commisisoned Officers Club. 7
