HONOR COUNCIL The Honor Council is composed of the seven highest ranting cadet officers: The Cadet Lt. Colonel, Captain Adjutant, and five Company Commanders. The Faculty Advisor is Major Waddy Thompson. One of the unique things about Carlisle is that discipline in the cadet corps is handled almost exclusively by this group. After trying the case thoroughly, a verdict is reached and submitted to the Headmaster for his approval. This is llte most respected organization at Carlisle, and great responsibility is given them. 68 CROSS SABER CLUB The most distinguished organization at Carlisle is the Cross Saber Club. To be eligible for membership, one must have proven himself worthy by being selected as a cadet commissioned officer. Duty, Honor, Loyalty, and Tradition are the principles on which the club is based, and its members are encouraged to set an example for other members of the Corps to follow. The club also fosters a constructive spirit for building a better school by its many projects. Members of the club enjoy the privileges of a clubhouse, where they can relax socially during their leisure hours. The members also enjoy several social outings during the year, to which the faculty is invited, thus bringing about a closer rela- tionship between ihe two groups. May it ever be our watchword, Conquer and Prevail” Hail to thee, our Alma Mater, Dear old Carlisle, Hail: We are working all together to make a better school. We are proud of dear old Carlisle. and forever will be true. When we from thy halls have parted, and life’s battle’s on, Thy great spirit shall inspire us Til eternal dawn. 74 Bob McCully Football Harold Phillips Basketball Richard Phillips Baseball COACHES Coaching at Carlisle is a difficult task. Be- cause of the uncertainty of returning boys and the never ending problem of obtaining a suit- able schedule, Carlisle teams are always un- predictable. Our football coaches. Bob McCully and Richard Phillips, turned in a remarkably good season. Compiling a record of six wins, three losses, and one tie, they produced the first winning team Carlisle has seen in ten years. Our basketball coach, Harold Phillips, was burdened with the task of preparing both the “A” and B teams. Although both teams ended the season with an under par record, they did defeat some of the better teams in the area. Richard Phillips, doubling up on his duties, also coached the Cyclone baseball squad. The outlook for a winning season is good. The newly organized Carlisle golf team is coached by Jack Steadman and William Scaffe. The future of the sport at Carlisle will depend upon the interest cadets place upon it. Membership is limited to those who have earned a varsity letter. After earning their letter the future member must go through a week’s initiation. The social function of the cluh is to provide entertainment by having parties and initiations. The purpose of the club is to develop leadership and promote better sports- manship. INTRAMURALS Capt. Malin Threatt Advisor Intramurals are held for all cadets who do not participate in varsity sports. There are eight teams under the leadership of a cadet manager. The intra- mural program is supervised Ly a faculty officer. Each team participates in all of the seasonal sports, including football, basketball, and softball. The rankings in these particular sports are indicated by points. At the termination of the year the final champion is decided by the most points. Intramurals at Carlisle not only give each and every cadet some- thing to do, but they also bolster morale. 86 RETREAT The day is done. As the mournful notes of Retreat echo through the hushed silence, the Corps of Cadets stands assembled at present arms to respectfully watch the lowering of our country’s flag. In the respectful silence that follows the Retreat of the Colors, the solemn ceremony becomes more than just a tribute to the flag; it acquires a religious significance too. After the bugle that heralds the coming of darkness becomes silent, the cadets feel within them- selves a closer kinship to God as well as to their country. Retreat is perhaps the most important event in the daily life of a cadet. It develops character and an ingrained love of God and our country. WILSON COMPANY was organized a little more than five years ago because the founder of the company was in- terested more in opportunity than in security. That there was a glorious opportunity to specialize in the manufacture of military school and college uniforms seemed to be self-evident and a challenge which the Irving L. Wilson Company has accepted. We are dedi- cated to the proposition of producing better uniforms at reasonable prices and to give our customers a high degree of personalized service.
