CARLISLE MILITARY SCHOOL BAMBERG, SOUTH CAROLINA GRAHAM TOMLINSON Editor-in-Chief ARNOLD POSTELL Assistant Editor JOE KERSHAW Business Manager FOREWORD In creating the 1957 REBEL, the staff has attempted to do more than to produce “just another yearbook”. We realize that you, as an individual cadet, have a most important part in making Carlisle what it is, in writing its history, in developing its traditions. People and events recorded herein will have an influ- ence on the Carlisle of the future and on the man that you will be in years to come. It is, then, our fond hope that this book will effectively record the people and events of an important year of your life, and in the distant future, serve as a means whereby you can turn back the passage of time, to relive and recap- ture those memories which will then be so dear to you. OUR HEADMASTER COLONEL JAMES F. RISHER “Character is what really counts in life. What you do speaks so loudly that people seldom hear what you say.” 3 THE REBEL STAFF DEDICATES THE 1957 REBEL TO Wr, WilL 3 WUn Secretary to the Headmaster We, the 1957 Rebel Staff, proudly dedicate our edition of the Rebel to Mrs. Willis Martin. We feel that she deserves it for her unfailing interest in the cadet corps, not only as a group, but as a friend to the individual. We would like to thank her for her concern in our activities and our each and every problem. And so, to you, Mrs. Martin, for whom we hold the highest respect and esteem, we dedicate this yearbook to you. THE COLOR GUARD Escudero, Ivie, Tyree, Furber. Serving on the Color Guard is a sacred duty and responsibility, and is the highlight of every parade. The Color Guard is composed of two Master Sergeants and two Corporals. These men are selected from the Cadet Corps because of their military bearing. 5 CARLISLE Lt. Col. James M. Grimes Commundant of Cadets A. We have reached a milestone in our young lives, that of graduating from high school. Friendships made over the past few years will be difficult to main- tain as we go our separate ways. Some will go to college, some into service, some into the world of business. Whatever course our lives may take, we will have a common bond. The lessons that we learned here together will stand us in good stead wherever we are. To treat your fellow man squarely and to prepare yourself to take advantage of the opportunities life offers are rules for success regardless of our station in life. i SENIOR CLASS Bagley Baker Barber WOODROW A. Its purpose is two-fold: First, to provide a discussion group in which each member has an opportunity to freely express himself and to develop ideas for making a better school; and second, to provide for its members an outlet for social activities to be enjoyed with others who share a great responsibility in the Corps of Cadets. The club succeeds admirably in both objectives. Many constructive ideas have come out of its regular meetings, and its social activities are much enjoyed and lcng remembered by its members. Because of the high standards of its members, belonging to this club is highly coveted by Carlisle Cadets, Its membership is the leadership of the Corps. The training cadre is made up of twenty-one outstanding cadets, who were chosen for their military bearing and leadership ability. Though the training cadre was only an experiment this year, it proved successful, beyond a doubt, and will continue as a practice throughout future years at Carlisle. The cadre this year, under the direction of Cadet Captain Tomlinson, completed the six weeks period with a citation for outstanding leadership. 59 NON-COM CLUB Sergeants: Ivey, Tyree, Bredenberg, Batten, Syler, Harrell, J. MacArthur CARLISLE MILITARY SCHOOL training is designed to develop alert- ness for oportunity and the skill and ability with which to make the most of opportunity. THE IRVING L. WILSON COMPANY was organized a little more than five years ago because the founder of the company was interested more in opportunity than in security. That there was a glorious opportunity to specialize in the manufacture of military school and college uniforms seemed to be self-evident and a challenge which the Irving L. Wilson Company has accepted. We are dedicated to the proposition of producing better uniforms at reasonable prices and to give our customers a high degree of personalized service. We are proud to be one of the uniform suppliers of the Carlisle Military School and we hope by the way in which we serve you that we will continue to merit this privilege. IRVING L.
