Fourth-place fmishes at both the Clarke Invitational and the Monroe Invitational topped the efforts of the boys cross-country team. The team lost dual meets to Nevada and Southeast Polk. Other invitational placements included fifth at Ballard, sixth at Hoover, and seventh at both Pella Christian and Pleasantville. In the Heart of Iowa race, they finished fifth with Eric Southward having the best individual placement-- seventh. Bernie Darr led the team in the Districts, placing 66th overall. The best individual time for the sea- son was turned in by Southward with a clocking of 10:39; he was also named the team captain with Darr named as the Future Leader. Kara Van eat her Lilly, Jennifer Baldwin, SECOND ROW: Julie Shetterly, Danielle Hermon, Laurie Woods, Jenny Brick, Michelle King, April Snyder, Julie Goodhue. Showing continued improvement throughout the season, the junior varsity team turned in an excellent season with 9 wins and only 2 losses, including a 20-8 win-loss mark in games. The team claimed wins over Saydel tZ-ll, Roland-Story t2-0l, S.E. Warren tZ-ll, Indianola t2-Ol, SOuth Hamilton t2-Ol, Nevada Q-ll, Johnston t2- ll, Bondurant-Farrar t2-Ol, and Ballard t2-0l. The only losses were three-game matches to Pella Christian and West Marshall. FRESHMEN- ,x kn IR sxwwmowtww ST ROW : Heidi Tedrow, Rachel Griffin, Kelly Van Ryswyk, Cathy Anderson, Meredith Churchill, Michale Fogle. With the team playing only two games against each opponent, the freshmen finished the season with 3 wins, 4 losses, and 4 ties. The 2-0 wins were over Indianola, Johnston and Ballard. The losses tO-Zl were to Saydel, S.E. Warren, South Hamilton, and Nevada with the girls tieing 1-1 in matches against Roland-Story, Pella Christian, West Marshall, and Bondurant-Farrar. The duo topped the team in most meets, leading them to fourth place in the Heart of Iowa Con- ference with Guenthner xplacing fifth and Claman finishing seventh. Other invitational placings include fifth at Monroe and Clarke, sixth at Ballard and Pleasantville, and tenth at Pella Christian. Guenthner finished the District in 39th place with Claman, the teamts captain, close behind in 45th place. Guenthner, named as the Future Leader, had the best time for the season with a clocking of 13:58.
