The junior varsity team earned six match wins rbest two of three sets, while losing six others. Wins were recorded over Johnston Q-OL Indianola 0-1,, Martensdale St. Mary's Q-OL South Hamilton Q-OL West Marshall Q-OL and Bondurant- Farrar Q-D. Losses were to Colfax 0-2, 1-2,, Pella Christian rO-ZL Bondurant-Farrar rO-ZL Southeast Warren 0-2,, and South Hamilton 0-2,. FRESHMEN--FIRST ROW: Jennifer Brick, Deena Chipp, Jenny Jones, Jennifer Baldwin, Danielle Hermon, Janel Glasener, Michelle King, Heather Lilly, Julie Goodhue, SECOND ROW: Leslie Miller, Rhonda Richards, Terri Dainty, Penny Rhoten, Sue McCaughey, Karmen Summers, Julie Shetterly, Kara Van Zee, Jennifer Bolton. Gaining their first taste of volleyball, the freshmen crew platooned its way to five wins, four losses, and two ties. Wins were gained over Johnston Q-OL Indianola 0-0,, South Hamilton 8-0, 2-D, and West Marshall Q-D. Losses were to Pella Christian rO-ZL Colfax 0-2,, Bondurant-Farrar rO-ZL and Southeast Warren 0-2; Ties were recorded against Martensdale St. Mary's and Bondurant-Farrar.

The year marked the beginning of a new sport--volleyball, a sport marked by a large, enthusiastic tUrnout of athletes. Volleyball features a five-set match that is won by the first team to win three sets. Playing a 13-match schedule often against more experienced teams, the varsity girls tcomposed mainly of seniorsi came up with four wins and nine losses. The first win ever was a four-set match against Indianola. Other match wins were earned over Martensdale St. Mary's t3- Oi, Southeast Warren t3-Oi, and South Hamilton t3-Oi with losses suffered to Colfax tO-3, O-3i, Pella Christian tO-3, O-3i, Bondurant-Farrar tO-3, 1-3i, Johnston t1-3i, South Hamilton t2-3i, and West Marshall 0-3 . , W W i. Traci Hansen, Kelli Seger, Coach Dan McGrail, SECOND ROW: Tracy Benge, Kelly Bosch, Patty Claman, Jenny Parker, Sandy Claman, Mary Wedemeyer, Terri Sinclair. The young girls' cross country team placed third in the Heart of Iowa Conference, paced by the efforts of juniors Sandy Claman and Mary Wedemeyer tfourth and fifth, respectivelyi. Claman turned in th best time for the year with a 13:29 clocking at Nevada. Team placements included second at Hoover, third at Pleasantville, fourth at Monroe and Nevada, fifth at Clarke, sixth at Ballard, and eighth at Pella Christian. The team lost dual meets with both Southeast Polk and Nevada.
