Another Heart of Iowa Conference championship awaited the 'Cats as they lost but one game in conference play. The team finished with its best season record ever--23 wins and 3 losses, including a 15-game winning streak and a ranking of seventh in the state. They also won the Martensdale Tournament. With a team batting average of .338, seven Wildcats hit above .300-- Denny Schnathorst L484i, Shawn Heggen L432i, Joe Wolfe L379i, Scott Mooers L354; John Mangello L347i, Steve Koester L344; and Brian D. Keeney t.311i. Schnathorst led the team in hits t44i, doubles OD, and RBl's O9; Heggen led the team in home runs t9i and tied in stolen bases i14i with Mangello. Best pitching records were turned in by Eric Johnson t9-2i and Mike Bartholomew 0-D. Named to alI-conference first team were Bartholomew, Schnathorst, Heggen, and Mangello. Second teamers included Johnson, Wolfe, and Keeney. Earning special mention was Koester with Mooers receiving honorable mention. Heggen and Schnathorst received first team AlI-District with Bartholomew, Johnson, a Mangello on second team. Heggen also played in the AIl-Star Baseball team. SEASON RECORD Clarke S.E. Polk S.E.
