The Braves started the season off by playing Corsicana State Home September 20. Both teams, showing good sportsmanship, played a good game. The Game ended in a tie 0 to 0. The following week the determined Braves played Rusk and won 13 to 0, With new hope and lots of vigor the Redskins called on the Arp Tigers and much to our regret lost 24 to O. On a beautiful moonlight night in October, the Gaston Red Devils visited Indianville. The braves with a high spirit played a game that they wouldn't have given their whole football career for. When the game was over and the score totaled up, the Devils won 20 to 0. VICTOR GAIBILL NARCUS RAHBEY NORRIS RAH EY J. M. On October 17 the Braves played London and with a good running and blocking attack won 30 to O. With still a fine spirit the Braves played the Troup Tigers on October 25 and won 13 to 0. Both teams having already shown themselves as the team to be victoriousg the Carlisle Braves went to Overton. Bother teams had a good running and passing attack and both teams played a fine game. With only one minute to play the Ponies intercepted an Indian pass and went across the double strip to make the flnal score 20 to 12 in their favor. The Braves, with revenge in their hearts for the O to 0 tie, played Leveretts Chapel for a victory of 35 to 12. REVIEW OF THE SEASON The 1940-41 Indian Cagers deserve to be ranked as one of the best teams in the history of the school. With a starting five composed of only two mainstays from last year's squad and three first year lettermen, the Indians made an enviable record of 19 victories out of the TG games played during the entire season. John Henry Johnston and Ray Tinnin, Senior lettermen, teamed with Clarence Wilson, Jewell Defee, Royce Peacock and Lawrence Yineo to make the starting lineaup. The :1E1arpsho'tin5j Indians hlared their way through three Pre-season games and a conference fam- x tem London without a setback, During the Christmas holidays this winning streak was broken I-y the loss oi' two games to Carthage, 23 to 31 and 24 to 36. The Carlisle cagers de- feated Salem and Gaston in conference games but did not hit their usual stride until they journeyed to Kilgore to participate in an invitation tournament. The Indian basketeers played a brand of ball that was good enough for any high school, defeating Tyler, Texarkana, Leverett's Chapel and Kilgore to win the tournament trophy. The defeat of Troup and Rusk in conference games made 8 straight victories for the Redskin and put them in a tie with Leverett's Chapel for first place in the Oil Belt League. In the play-off Carlis1e's winning streak was broken by Arp in a 25 to 14 defeat. Arp won the 011 Belt League Championship. To tune up for the County Tournament, Carlisle played Minden, classy Lone Star League team, and went down 31 to 40. In the first game of the County Tournament, the Indians defeated Overton 41 to 22 With the second game, Leverett's Chapel dropped Carlisle down into the loser's bracket from which they had to come up the hard way. It was necessary for them to defeat Gas- ton, London, and Overton in order to get backet. In two strenous, nerve-tingling blue clad cagers downed Henderson, 31 to Title. The Indians marched on to defeat copy the County Cage Crown. Having played 8 games in 11 days to a chance at Henderson, winner of the upper games, marked by sensational playing, the 24 and 38 to 34 thus winning the Class A Pine Hill, the Class B winners, 41 to 31, to salt away the county crown, the hard-fighting Carlisle Indians finally cracked under the gruclling strain and were upset 40 to 19 by an inspired Lufkin quintet in the District Tournament at Nacogdochcs on February 21. Thus ended another successful Carlisle Cage Campaign. HELVIN BELCHER HERIAN MULLINS ' Q .. DAVID HALL BILLY BOB ADDINGTOH : ---V za V A, , . 11 Ii S Dec: Dec Dec Dec Dec Doc Jan . Tan . Jan J an .
