CONSTRUCTION AND DESTRUCTION ■ Million Dollar Fire Destroys Large Stores Burglary and arson were believed the cause of the fire which on December 9 completely leveled the large Bowman Co. Store and the adjoining Mc- Crory’s. Several apartments in the Kronenberg Building were gutted, and both Kronenberg’s and Cochran Allen’s stores were damaged in the midnight blaze which firemen fought for about ten hours.

EVENTS ARE BOTH TRAGIC Ronald Egolf, a ten year old attend¬ ing fifth grade at Stevens Elementary School, was selected to appear at the Russian Bolshoi Ballet in New York in September. Blue Mountain Hotel, which once, stood on this spot, was completely demolished in the tragic explosion that occurred early in September, re¬ sulting in the death of two people. Leaving for a trip to Shawnee are members of the Carlisle Chamber of Com merce: George Davidson, Jr., President; C. E. Hoffman; Richard Townsend and Delroy F. Wurster, Executive Secretary.
