Here Jim Thorpe, named the greatest- athlete of this century, start¬ ed his career. Although we now have no Indians in Carlisle, last summer in con¬ nection with the premier of the Thorpe movie, an Indian Princess visited us from Oklahoma City and here presented to the Governor of Pennsylvania, Governor John S. Fine, war bonnets of honor. Today, though museums contain many pictures of it, the Carlisle Indian School (1879- 1918) is no more; yet we remember our debt to the First Americans, and have chosen an Indian Theme for our 1952 Oracle. In this book we invite you to visit our Carlisle High School and here to see its members. As we emulate the courage, skill, and physical strength of these Ind¬ ian Americans, may we, too, grow to be good Americans, better equipped to meet life squarely and to face the future un¬ afraid. The only blemishes on this record were an early season reversal by Gettys¬ burg, conference champ, while three regulars were benched because of sickness; and a tie, in the mud and rain, with Hanover. In the traditional tilt with the Wildcats from M-burg, the Herd stampeded over, through, and around the Cats for the highest score since the series was inaugurated, winning handily 38-0. Fred McCoy, honorary captain and center of the all-star squad, Bob Lowry, tackle, and Pete Cala- man, quarterback, were selected for the All-South Penn Conference team. Losing only one football game, crushing Mechanicsburg 38-0, and producing our class play, All Through the Night,” were high lights of the year. We have now reached the end of our trail. Just as the Red Men” have ended their primitive way of living, we, of the class of ’52, end our experience as school students. But, just as Indian stories and traditions are remembered, especially here in Carlisle with its rich Indian heritage; so we, too, shall have memories of our school career. Only yesterday we were seventh graders, looking up to the seniors and thinking Just five more years!” Soon w were Freshmen,” enjoying the Freshm Follies.’’ Then ds sophomores we began to participate in numerous activities: Drama¬ tics, Choir, Band, Periscope Staff, and Sports. In 1950-51 we contributed many athletes to help win the 1950 Football and Track Conferences. We became members of the hall patrol. With Cheaper by the Dozen” as our class play, and the Pennsyl¬ vania Dutch as the theme of the colorful Junior Prom, we ended our year as Juniors, proudly wearing our new class rings. The last of our activities included May Day, the Junior Prom, Baccalaureate, our ever-wonderful class ride, and at last Commencement. For this important occa¬ sion we decorated the stage with green and gold, our class colors, and the red rose, our class flower. Our school life is finished; but just as ndians had to remake their lives in a rid, we, also, must go forward to a _ life, putting into use all the things we learned during our school days. Al¬ ways upright, always true, That’s the Class of ’52” is our motto. We shall never for¬ get. May this Oracle help each of you to remember both this school year and each of us who here reach the end of our school days. Finally we reached our goal, but, to our amazement, as Seniors we feel no dif¬ ferent, and now sadly realize what school means to us. This year we have been busy having our class pictures taken, ordering
