The dreams and hopes of a private school were kept concealed and treasured in the minds of many. Few had the courage to break away from the established school system and try something as new as Carlisle. Those who did have gone forth with a lantern in their hands to light the way for future generations. We will be eternally grateful to the parents who were willing to send their children to a school whose fate was uncertaing the students who were courageous enough to accept the ridicule from their peer who did not attend Carlisleg and the faculty members who were willing to sacrifice their jobs with the public educational system kgvs lend a helping hand to a school so new! p MMM Vg Because Mr. G. THE CARLISLE JUNCTION The senool newspaper, The Carlisle Junc- tion, is now in its fourth year of publication. Its five editors and eleven staff members work diligently in the preparation of each issue. The four-page paper devotes its stories to the important news, features, and sports events that take place every day in and around the school. It also gives a complete list of those who received Five Star Certifi- cates and those who made the Honor Rolls. The Junctionis main purpose is to inform all of the people connected in any way, directly or indirectly, with Carlisle of the things that have occured over a period of time with which they may not be familiar. The Junc- tion's present editor is Bailey Farley. Mr. Ethridge is its advisor, and Bassett Printing is the publisher. After long hours, losing study halls, and much recopy- ing, the second Carlisle BLUE and GOLD was produced. Each member of the staff submitted his time, ideas and patience. Not only did each work diligently on his own section of the annual but was always ready to lend a help- ing hand to anyone in need. Our editor, Helen Weaver along with co-editor Martha ,g White, listened patiently to all complaints and tried to steer us in the right direction. Through the rough times and easy times, the successes and defeats, the fun and hard work, the staff managed to compile the BLUE and GOLD 1971-72. 9 U3 'TJ '11 M .-I LI-I LI-4 The Form IV Girls French Club is busy this X year carrying on projects that are widening their field of French knowledge. SCA The SCA has worked hard this year to achieve the wants and the needs of the students ofCarlisle. The Council has had its problems, but it has also had its achievements throughout the year. A new project started by the council was the Snack Bar where the Council sells food during break and at games. This helps the students' hunger pains and puts a little extra cash in the SCA trea- sury for other projects. A favorite idea of most students is the special day once a month when school is different. Stu- dents wear blue jcans to school or do something a little different. A chorus was begun under the supervision of Mr. Wonson. Open SCA meetings brought the students closer together. Carlisle jackets and tote bags were sold to the students and faculty. Receptions were given for the visiting teams after the games. The Wednesday morning assemblies were taken over by the Council. Guests such as Jim Harrington from the Jesus Joint in Martinsville were asked to speak. A major change conducted by the Council was the reform in the old dress code to meet the requests of the students. The course includes thirty-six hours in the classroom and seven behind the Wheel driving. The student body is grateful to Bob White Chevrolet Company for supplying us the new Chevrolet every six months. Through the use of the class- room lectures, textbooks, class projects, films, speakers, and actual driving it is our hope that we have developed mature driving attitudes, knowledge, skills, and habits to make Carlisle students safer drivers. 14 .,-ff' Q, 5, .eg v,w n 1 sv? -. 5 -W' AN ' 1 x 132 ' ,RQ NW H Y 6 w 1 :ww 1 V lf - 'Tl W BOYS FOOTBALL TEAM SEATED-Mark Davenport, David Stanley, Managers. The Carlisle Football Team this year started its first season with 32 students and two managers. Those who would represent Carlisle in its first year of football did a fine job and we feel their 3-3 record speaks for itself. Many sacrifices were made by the players who worked every day and on the weekends to improve their skills. WE played many teams with far more experience than we had. The coaching staff, Mr. Webster and Mr. Wonson, feel that we can look forward to another fine season. With one year under our belts we hope to improve and continue to represent Carlisle in a winning manner. As the coaches agree we don't promise you a rose garden . 16 ref as-1. This is how the BLUE and GOLD staff felt about the yearbook that they published. It was not something to work onjust for fun, although sometimes it was, but serious business. To all of you who put up with my yelling and short temper, I thank you, for the times you were patient and understanding with me, I thank you even more. My greatest appreciation goes out to the following: To MR. WRIGHT - who had to learn along with us and guided us through the bad times with ease and reassurance. To MR. MARSHBURN - Delmar representative, who corrected our mistakes and listened to our complaints. To ROBIN MCCOLLUM f so very glad there was someone in the school who could type. To LELIA WEAVER - even though it took many great decisions and much recopying, you produced beautiful features. To HENLEY BIDGOOD, ROBIN HYLTON, SUSAN BESTLER - thank you girls so much for spending all your spare time on the class pictures, which I know were a big job. To LOUISE MONTGOMERY - you really know how to get money out of people! To COURTNEY DODGE and FRANK TAYLOR - you said you knew a lot about sports and your section really proved it. To RENN GRAVELY - your writing talents were shown to be what everyone thought they were, great. To MARTHA WHITE - a better co-editor no one could ask for, you were understanding and helpful because you knew a little bit about everything. To BEN BEELER, MARK BLODGETT, ROBERT HEINER - Thanks a million for each candid shot you took. Thank you, Helen Weaver ' t l .,.. f I ,Q . 5 .I Wil at 1?
