CLASS HISTORY On that bright day in September, 1946, 39 brave little students-to-be came marching through the big doors of the red brick building to begin their educational career. Of that 39, only 25 completed the full 12 years in C.H.S. They are Betty Bolls, Jane Booe, Kenneth Bennett, Kaye Griffin, Nancy Griffin, Carol Gillespie, Jerry Isbell, Carolee Johnson, H. D. King, Charlene Matlock, Patsy Nation, Travis Northcutt, Steve Palsa, Neil Pfeiffer, Russell Screeton, Barbara Seamans, Doris Smart, Jacqueline Smith Bettis, Larry white, and Anne Wil- liams. Teddy wilson, John Zimmerman, Virginia Morgan, Anita wright DuBose, Donald Kilgore, and Michael Havlik were also beginners, but later left us for a short time only to return again. Mn. Ruby Pfeiffer led ru through our beginning year. Taking the big step across the hall to the Second Grade, we met Mrs. Goldie Johnson. It was in this year that we met the new exciting experience of going to study hall in the public school music hall, conducted by Mrs. Delsie Purdue. The newcomers were Tommy McCallie, Teresa Miller, and Frankie Torian. Loretta Sni- der also appeared on the scene, stayed to the eighth grade, only to return to her old stomping grounds the fol- lowing year. The Third Grade brought with it greater challenges. This was a climaxlng year in which our little group was split for the first time. Mrs. J. D. Martin was in charge of one group, and a new teacher, Miss Rachael Rabom took the other group. We were greeted with two new members, Jimmy Miller and Harriet Shoup, Har- riet proved to be a little nm-around, staying with us a year, left a year, and came back to try again. However, this wasn't permanent as she moved again and didn't return until her Senior Year, We ventured into the Fourth Grade where we met Mrs. C. W. Calhoun and another new teacher, Miss Kat- herine Yingllng. Jerald McClain entered our class during this year. Our growing class moved to higher ground with Miss Hazel Barr and Miss Clara Smith. We took up many new pastimes such as folk dancing. We recruited two members that year, Calvin Elmore and Gerald Measels. Miss Hazel hated to see us leave so she proceeded to the Sixth Grade with us. Mrs. J. C. Rouse took charge of the other group. We experienced the feeling of being the 'big kids in grade school and prepared ourselves for high school. Miriam Buffalo and Robert Buffalo joined us in time to receive our first diplomas. Again new doors were opened to us in the Seventh Grade. we hated to see our recess taken away, but our sponsor, Mrs. Minnie Hicks, helped us see more important things. The excitement of high school life inspired us to be like the 'big seniors' so it didn't take long to get accustomed to the new routine. Elva Calvert, Geneva Sklllem, william Mitchell, Cinderella Vent, and Billy white joined us for our first high school year, along with David Riner. Miss Minnie McMillan saw us through our Eighth Grade. There were no new students. Miss Clara Sims greeted us to our Freshman Year. Here we gained three new members, W. H. Cochran, Faylene Cochran, and Carolyn Magee. Carolyn remained -through the tenth grade, left us, and rejoined the class for the Senior Year. The Tenth Grade brought us a step closer to our goal with Mr, A. G. Haddock as our sponsor. Our one ad- dition to the class was Clarence Underwood. we entered our Junior Year with enthusiasm and determination to make it the best. Under the guidance of Miss Sara Shanks, who was as spirited as we, we saw our play 'Cheaper By The Dozen' make a success. Each and everyone of us took delight in presenting to the '58 Seniors, a gay Jurtior-Senior Banquet entitled 'Mardi Gras.' All the work and fun gave us the satisfaction of having a very successful Junior Year with even brighter hopes for the final and greatest year. And so, our last year, we enter the doors of C.H.S. as The Seniors. This truly gives us a feeling of su- periority but, above all, the responsibility of being model students for others to follow. Johnny Allen, Faye Eggbun, Violen Watson joined our class under the direction of Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Rlner. Our senior rings added to our pride, but behind all our pride ls much hard work. Being the largest class ever to leave C.H.S. , we have had to work very hard for our long-awaited trip. The Senior Play is yet to come, and this year we will be treated to a Junior-Senior Banquet. Then for the great day - Graduation. This is what we've all worked toward for 12 years and will greet with triumph. Again, though, we will face open doors and an unlimited future. No 'red brick building or 'new high school building to greet us, only we, the 1959 Seniors, can determine what the doors of our future will hold. But whatever it will be, may we each cherish the past 12 years and all that went with it.
