'43: Hallowe'en Maid '4Zg Class Reporter 45' I..1brary Play '43, 44. bn SENIOR CLASS HISTORY We the Class of 1946 started our school career away back xn 1934 when on one brmght September mormng qu1te a few chlldren accompamed by thelr fond mothers trooped to school M1ss Beatrlce Ellms was there to greet each one Smce then there have been many changes although a few of us have managed to come through together We are jessxe Pearl Smlley jessxe Hardke B1111e Jeanne Llsenby Betty Snlder Marv Braxnard Addre Lou I-Illlyard Rubye Ellxs Elalne Koch Ethel Bennett Martha bxrdsong Stella Mae Beaty and jerrel Harrxson One of the most xmportant events of thls year was our study of Indlans and a p1cn1c wlth each one dressed ln Indlan costume The followmg year Mrs J D Martln beckoned from across the hall where Buddy I-Iutson Jolned us rema1n1ngw1th us untll we were junlors when he left to Joln the armed forces Delcye Burden also 1o1ned us ln the Znd grade and has been w1th us ever smce Our next stop was Just a few steps down the hall where Mxss Esther Ruth Hutson walted for us Evelyn Groom bemg ln such a hurry to catch us sklpped the Znd grade to Jom us Next year we agaln crossed the hall to have Mxss Hazel Barr greet us We thought we were gettxng qulte grown up for thls was the flrst year we started the study of Geography VK e also enjoyed folk dancmg once each week 1n the gymnasmm The followlng year was a lxttle dlfferent MISS Marguerxte Bowden was our teacher Jolned by Earllne Archer from Stuttgart In the 6th grade Mlss Loulse Barnes and her earrxngs awalted us We had qulte an lnterestlng history study and bullt a feudal system castles walls moats serfs quarters etc just thmk' VN e were almost upsta1rs' l94O 'Oh Happy Year' VK e were upstalrs under the guldance of Mlss Ann1e Mann We also found the receptlon commlttee from the prevlous year awaltlng us namely Ruth Ward Sue Baldwm Thomas Harrlson Irene Hazelwood and Frances Murray who went along wlth us and shared 1n our pleasures untll the last year or so when all but Sue and Frances declded they really should leave earlxer so by golng to summer schools graduated wlth the class of 45 However Wayne Glover Jomed us thls year and has stayed wlth us even tho he was called to do a turn wlth Uncle Sam s Army he came back to flnlsh wlth us The flrst few days upstalrs were utter confusxon The poor llttle seventh graders were always gettmg lost or mn some one s way I..yr1c Beck Joined our class the next year otherwlse It passed off quletly of course we felt supertor to the seventh grade havmg already passed through that stage The nxnth grade brought us the proud name of Freshmen and I ll admxt there was a slight cast of green around as we struggled to make out a program card for our last four years m Dear Ole C H S The questlon put to us was What vocatxon do you plan to prepare for That left us almost speechless We were now at the cross road where we were to begm to choose what we thought was best for us This same year I 7 . ' the School Band was organmzed by our new Supermtendent Mr George R1ttmann thls gave us a new actlvlty Also we had several to come lnto our number from near by schools june Edmondson Regma Hedrxck Mlckey Marcotte and VN xlma Isbell Wllma later got ln a rush went to summer school and graduated 1n 1945 We also welcomed Gerald Parks and B1lly Lackxe who moved to our falr cxty ln the tenth Grade we enjoyed the study of Geometry axded by Mrs Rt use who lxttle reallzed what was before her lt was thls year that Lmda Fulks appeared 1n our m1dst from Kansas Clty Gerald Parks and Bxlly Lackxe were a llttle anxxous to do thelr b1t for the cause and left school to enter the Navy to do thelr bxt against the enemy Earllne 165519 Pearl Betty Evelyn B1ll1e Jeanne Lmda Wllford and Elame thought they were smart nough for Lat1n Alas the eleventh Grade came wxth all 1ts respons1b1l1t1es xts joys headaches and what have you The Class Play FIXID Aunt Fanny Help' Help' Dld we hear someone cry for ald OH just Earllne trymg to get the fxrst lines through her memory Be Calm VN e must be Calm we hear M1ckey whlsper knownlng all the time h1s blg pal fWayne Glover has taken for the txme belng a very valuable S1lver Punch Bowl Ah' such memormes practxces 1n the raln looked for banquet planned along the theme of Ye Ole Correl From the long covered tables of red and wh1te checked table cloths the lanterns hangmg from the posts the rall fence the hay loft the harvest moon r1s1ng ln the east all gave atmosphere of the w1de open spaces The g1rls who served were dressed ln cow g1r1fash1on The program centered around western songs and speeches That was the mght Frlday May 18th we were glad we were so close to the members of the twelfth grade for they 1nv1ted us to go along wwlth them on a trlp to Memphms Thls was another dav that w1ll long stay ln our memory After Mr Clark was fmally awaken and started the check showed four cars fzlled almost to the brxm, w1th young people started for the Clty At Brmkley everyone was about to get awake enough to want breakfast so breakfast lt was ln Memphzs we attended a show saw the zoo and many mterestmg places fxnally endlng at the Faxr Ground whrch had just opened that week Asmde from the Sold1ers and Samlors the cotton candy hot dogs soda pop pop corn and the hke everyone seemed to enjoy ll the rldes even Bud and the P1p1n huh Bud? We were sorry as we checked over the group to fxnd Lmdy Rogers and Bud G1ll1um mlssmg but we knew they were havmg fun m a d1fferent way as they were 1n Navy boot tra1n1ng ln Calxforma Thls year we got off to a good start by electlng Wayne Glover as our Presldent Martha Bxrdsong as V Pres and Lmda Fulks as Secretary and Evelyn Groom Treasurer We have had lots of fun along the way and are eager for the play com m1ttee to start practlce on our Semor Play We have worked hard at tlmes, have seen the Natxonal Honor Soclety mstalled xn our school and the organxzatmon of a Student Government We are proud to have had a part mn these orgamzatlons and as we leave school wondermg where our paths of l1fe may lead we wxll always remember that Good Old Class of 1946 Blame Koch ' . . . . . . , .
