CARLISLE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL BARDWELL, KENTUCKY THE COMET 3 0 DEDICATION The 1983 Annual Staff would like to dedicate this year’s Comet to Coach Craynor Slone. Coadh Slone has shown great leadership, not only to the boys’ basketball team but also to each member of the Carlisle County student body. His entire coaching career has been very successful, and his years at C. C. H. S. have been incredible. He has helped bring recognition to our small school. To the classroom, he brings warmth and humor. His students admire and respect him. To show our love and gratitude to this special man, we dedicate the 1983 Comet to Coach Craynor Slone. 2 ADMINISTRATION CONTENTS n D 0 Behind the Scenes Brazzell’s family reunion 4 At Carlisle High Who d you call stupid? 5 ANNUAL STAFF Editors — Lona Guntliarp Machelle Owens Financial Manager — Mary Jane Owsley Photographers— Kevin Martin Christa Thomason Kim Ross Subscriptions — Michele Tolbird Stephen Duggan Activities — Jody Neal Joanie Slone Sports — Alana Crider Vicki Davis Organizations — David Rambo Tommy Clayton Duane Dubrock Faculty — Karen Pearson Lori Larkins Senior Favorites and Directory — Paula Shrodes Denise Ellegood Senior Class — Jackie Whitlock Joan Martin Junior Class — Jennifer Polivick Monica Hobbs Sophomore Class — Trava Hays Danette Hayden Freshman Class — Robyn Slone Mary Susan Williams 6 Lona Guntharp Machelle Owens Mary Jane Owsley Machelle Owens Editor 7 CLASS of “83” PRESENTS “REST ASSURED” Directed by: Debra Choate and Janie High CAST Mr. Morlock ... My job gets harder every day. “I said I’m twcnty-FIVE! “No you cannot join Beta Club with a D-average.” “And they say I never do anything!’’ 14 “I think I’ll be sick tomorrow. To The Class Of “83” Each of you is to be congratulated on your accomplishments thus far in life. You will no doubt look back at your experiences and they will be a source of strength for you, and motivate you as you reach out in your future endeavors. H. W. Beecher states, and I quote, “Education is the knowledge of how to use the whole of oneself. Many men use but one or two faculties out of the score with which they arc endowed. A man is educated who knows how to make a tool of every faculty, how to open it, how to keep it sharp, and how to apply it to all practical purposes.” As you enter other milestones in your life, may you use your whole self, use self- discipline, have the courage for your convictions, and the wisdom to recognize right from wrong. I wish for each of you success in life and may you continue to grow mentally, intellec- tually, and spiritually. Robert E. Watson Superintendent Graduation, the day that you have eagerly awaited, has arrived. Yet with its ar- rival come mixed feelings of joy and sadness. There is joy that you have ac- complished an important goal in your life. However, with this joy there is a feel- ing of sadness as you part from your school, friends, and the staff that you have learned to love and appreciate. As your ship sets sail upon the sea of life, there are some charges I would like to leave with you. First: guard your heritage of family, friends, and ancestors who have charted and paved your course thus far. Second: hold dear to your heart an appreciation for your home, school, and the opportunity of living in America. Finally: Cling to the eternal realities of love and faith in God, mankind, and self that gives life its zest and makes living worthwhile. Burley Mathis Principal 15 „ A Mondays! Mmmm, food! Braces changed my whole life! 16 SENIORS Class of “83” Don’t be dismayed at good-byes A farewell is necessary before you can meet again And meeting again, after moments or lifetimes, is certain for those who are friends. Your leadership and guidance helped us make this year’s COMET the best it could be. Because of our inexperience, working with the two of us could often be trying. Your temper was always in control and your sense of humor helped us laugh at our silly mistakes. We both gained a great deal by working with you on such an important school project. Even though it was such an important project, you helped make it an enjoyable experience. We hope we can hold on to some of the thoughts and ideas you shared with us. Soon you will be starting the 1984 COMET, and we both wish you the best of luck with the annual and the annual staff. Machelle and Lona Editors Drive-Ins Hours 10:00-10:30 Mon.
