CARLISLE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL BARDWELL, KY. Foreword I do not read the book; I merely turn a page and find a memory there. How small a thing this book - a material thing - could shelter the image of the past. I retouch in memory upon the impressions these pages have left upon my life and with sentiment reflect upon each golden moment. Annual Staff Message For most people, when this annual is opened it is abe- gining, but for the 1972 annual staff it is the end. This book has been built around images, reflections, and im- pressions of the year 1972 at Carlisle County High School. If it is the first or hundreth time to turn the page, the meaning is still there. Things one thought could never be for- gotten are dim and hazy like smoke. Memories are images of the good things of life. In one sense ed- ucation is . . . convincing Mrs. Yarbrough that it was the type- writer's fault . . . watching Everything You Wanted to Know About the Atom. But We’re Afraid to Ask, three times in one day . . . wondering how anyone could sleep through the bell . . . listen- ing to a chemistry equation being explained for the fourth time . . . wondering what the annual staff is up to now (especially on the next page). 10 Ode To The Dress Code What tie doeth hold us to the grind; What force compels us to the line? To make us wear our skirts a little long, And always leave our hot pants at home. Shirt tail in. Don't forget your socks. Below your ear? Then cut your locks. No mustache, or chain, or beard. No side bums below the ear. Wrong or right - it remains the rule. Subject to all as part of this school. The point I try to get across . . . Keep the code - or pay the cost!! II Impressions Unlike computers, students are capable of error (much to the dismay of parents and teachers). To learn by one’s mistakes is to learn through impressions. The actual learning process comes about when one combines the text- book with life. What's a nice guy like me doing in a place like this? 1 think I'm gonna throw up! Decisions . . . Decisions . . . 13 Daily Impressions How well a students know what it is like to follow a routine! . . . bell . . . roll call . . . count down until lunch . . . Hurray! It's lunch . . . count down until 2:50 . . . Ready! Set! Go! . . . Hurray! It's 2:50 . . . Pick a day, any day, and recall everything that took place. Those things are . . . 14 Attached directly to the Daily Routine is the explosion of students coming from every direction. Down the hall, around the corner, out the door . . . mass confusion . . . for approximately three minutes. Then all is quiet - expect for the echoes . . . What makes the difference? 15 Without the students the school is just a structure of mortar and brick. When the last student leaves, the-whole shadowy structure stops breathing. One can walk down the empty dismal hall and hear only the echoes of his own footsteps. C. H.S. are young and energetic, some of their images have been captured and recorded in print. Some students are serious, while others are hum- orous. Some have outgoing personalities, while others are bashful and timid. But, beneath it all - all of them for a brief period of time are joined together by being C. C. H. S. students. According to a student survey, these are a few of our FAVORITE THINGS: Springtime and summer, hamburger, pizza Basketball, Fridays, and Wolfman and Snoopy, Walks down die aisle and dancing in style These are a few of our favorite things. Red Fox and Kennedy, Agnew and Hefner Buchanan, Hunt, and Crider and Nixon, Publishers, Presidents, Comedians, and then Teachers and Teachers and Teachers again. The practical applications of what is learned in class is conducted through the various organizations in this school. Learning to co-operate with many people can sometimes be awkward, but through clubs, one becomes aware of new ways to get along with others. Through these group activi- ties a person can determine his ability to lead as well as to follow. This kind of in- volvement traces the outline of a person's future. This is one of the many learning impressions. JR. VARSITY SETS RECORD AT CCHS Twenty-one and four - that’s a new Comet junior varsity record! Most of this year's team was made up of sophomores and freshmen, so the Comets of the future should be very strong. Several times this season the junior Comets neared the century mark in scoring. Happiness, hard work, and a few disappointments - all made up a big part of this year's varsity cheerleaders' lives. It was a rewarding experience fiill of life-long memories. Coach Tom Buchanan guided this season's Comet Squad to a thirty-one and five season. This makes the second consecutive thirty plus season for the Big Gold. The Comet's big three - Gary Duncan, Steve Frizzell, andMickie Thomason - were chosen for the All-Region team. Marty Nichols and John Martin filled the other two starting positions. Seniors Dwayne Edwards, David Polivick, and Gary Yates held the reserve roles. Freshman Thomas Jenkins added the additional spark to the squad when he was called on to perform.
