If, therefore, thing I can do, let me do it now; let me not defer All too often people converse with one another in beautiful verse, to the extent, that all meaning of what is being said is lost. Our theme, as quoted from Grellet, could be just such a verse. Yet, a short stanza like this expresses far too much to fall upon the ear only to be cast off by the mind ; for in this verse lies all hope the human race has to offer. there be any kindness I can show, or any good it or neglect it, for I shall not pass this way again. As another division of our society graduates into the world, let us hope that they live by this verse. Let us pledge ourselves to live our lives and conduct our associa- tions with our fellowman with this short stanza in mind. Thus, if only one person car- ries it through, it is certain to have an influence, even if it is only a small one. Our Sponsors Mrs. Betty Hawkins has generously offered her time to gently coax the annual staff into action. We genuinely appreciate her guidance and would now like to say thank you. Then and Now 4 In Dedication To you - MR. BUCHANAN, because of your broad human sympathies, leadership in the advancement of education, your friendly and sincere interest in the individual student, your wholehearted loyalty and two years of service to Car- lisle County High School, we, the members of The 1971 Senior Class, believe it an honor to dedicate the 1970- 71 edition of The Comet to you. ADMINISTRATION Superintendent’s Message As time moves on, I hope the pleasant memories of the days spent in Car- lisle County High School will add enjoyment to yout lives, and that the ef- forts you have put forth have prepared you for abundant happiness and success. It is the hope of all of us that the high purposes to which your future tasks may be dedicated may be strengthened by your associations with us here in Carlisle County. It is our prayer that you will be afforded abundant opportunities for suc- cessful service and that you will take advantage of each one. We hope that you are well aware of the precious privilege you have to live in a democracy which provides a great system of public education. Take advantage of it. Wherever you go. we will be confident that you will uphold the standards of Carlisle High. Charles J. We have every reason to be encouraged as we look to you - to your energies, your hopes, and ambitions. We have every right to be confident as we consider your high sense of pur- pose and refreshing desire to serve. I believe that America's pride and confidence in you are soundly placed. I be- lieve that you will look within yourselves to ask how best you can direct your special talents to help fill the urgent needs of those who, through no fault of their own, have not enjoyed a rightful share in the general prosperity of America. My congratulations to the graduating senior on the scholarship that has earned you this diploma; and my sincere good wishes as you go forth to do your best in your chosen field, helping to find better communities and a stronger America. Perhaps with its completion the kids are no longer kids. We feel that if our work, anxiety, and dedication determine the caliber of a book, this should be a classic. We sincerely hope you enjoy the product of our labor. If in years to come, it helps you relive some of the cherished moments of your high school days, then our goal has been accomplished. We sincerely appreciate all help we have received in the making of this yearbook. Thus, with these thoughts in mind, we present the 1970-71 COMET.
