“
THE SENIOR CLASS OF CARLISLE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL presents Over a period of four years, a school tends to ac- cumulate its own constellation of student stars. These stars may be dull, or they may be brilliant and luminous. Surely, the Carlisle County stars of 1969 can be likened unto the latter. With the help of its stars, a school can make great strides forward in every phase of its curriculum - academic functions, organizations, and sports. If all the Carlisle County stars are looked upon as one group, a constellation with a very definite shape and personality is formed. This terrestrial star group” is collectively referred to as “The Comet.” The title The Comet” is appropriate for all Carlisle County student activities. Viewed in this respect, The Comet” comes to represent student feelings, thoughts, actions, and daily lives. This book symbolizes The Comet.” These pic- tures symbolize student functions at Carlisle County High. Be this your first or your hundredth visual trek through these pages, keep in mind the activities, the friendships, the work, that this book represents. Baker Superintendent As you leave Carlisle County High School and as time passes, may the memories of the time spent here strengthen you and may the tasks you have undertaken have prepared you for success and happiness. May you always keep in mind that a truly successful person is not the one who has accumulated the most money, the most social prestige, but the one who has participated in life in a useful and meaningful man- ner. Service, honesty, fairness, and concern for others are'ingredients for success that we too frequently overlook. May you not overlook them. It is my hope, prayer, and desire, that the miles that are ahead of you will be filled with joy, blessing, and fulfillment of service realized through hard work - and a fuller, richer life for yourself and your fellowmen through the wise and enriching use of the opportunities that will be yours in the wonderous years ahead. Library Assistants The library is a busy place at all times. It plays an important role in the total in- structional program of the school. There is no period of the day when there is not a hum of activity. Assisting Mrs. Edrington, our librarian, in keeping library materials in order, checked in and out, are the student library assistants: Nancy Britt, Ava Carder, Deborah Davis, Janice Munsell, Brenda Nelson and Pat Nelson. These students are good workers, and enjoy books personally. Their duties give them an opportunity to broaden their personal experiences, as well as helping to provide more and better library service to our school. The Land Between the Lakes Escapade 52 We got up there ... by luck! I liked the atmosphere of the place. We heard a bobcat that absolutely scared us to death! I fell up three hills and down two! We had a lot of fun pouring plaster of paris in animal tracks. I liked the contour class, because there wasn't too much walking. “We also found some British Soldiers. I didn't like the night watch because my girlfriend didn't want me to go. I had a ball!! The only regret is ... we didn't get to stay long enough!! 53 1968 and 1969 54 The Year of Minis 55 Christmas 56 Activities I I YULETIDE ACTION Christmas is a time of fun, A time of punch for everyone; A time of trees and pretty doors. And having perhaps the better claim. Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same. And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. 1 shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I - I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. 114 CECILIA BEARDSLEY PAULA RICHARD THERESA TUCKER THe COIN Sara Teasdale Into my heart's treasury I slipped a coin That time cannot take Nor a thief purloin - Oh, better than the minting Of a gold-crowned king Is the safe-kept memory Of a lovely thing. DELORES DAVIS - Library Award CO-VALEDICTORIANS: David Green Jimmy Flegle of ’69 At the beginning of the 1968-1969 school year, a slightly reluctant group of seniors began the task of creating” an annual. The group had no idea what lay ahead of them. They had only the knowledge that hours, hours, and more hours would be spent filling the pages of this book. Many times the cause seemed hopeless - too many pages (7), not enough pictures (?), what about copy (?), and where is the money coming from (?). But the staff always managed to pull themselves through the rough spots. The editors, Marian and Jimmy, would like to thank the sponsors and staff for all the work that they have given in order to publish this book. The editors also extend a special Thank you” to YOU for cooperating with us throughout the past year. 125 Organizations Editors GARY OWENS and JANIE CARTER 126 127 Activities Editors BEVERLY DEWEESE and SHEILA SMITH Business Managers BILLY HARRIS and DAVID GREEN Photographers WALLY HILL and DARRELL UNSELL Typists CAREN BROWN, ANNA WOMBLE. Take a guess!! page 67 See page 70 133 EDITORS’ NOTE Eleven months of selling, drawing, writing, correcting, consulting, and picture- taking have gone into The Comet, 1969. Color pictures have been introduced, eight pages have been added, graduation activities have been included, and the Comet has been unveiled on the inside covers. Everything conceivably possible has been done to make this annual a golden treasure for your library. But this book has no significance unless YOU can supply the memories that the pictures represent. YOU must put these scenes together in such a way that your high school years may be relived. That is your task. The staff sincerely hopes that this book will give you many happy returns for your high school career. May this annual be only the beginning chapter of a lifetime of success. 134 DEENA Arlington Kentucky 136 BUGG BROTHERS Arlington, Kentucky Clinton, Kentucky For the Finest Photographs in Western Kentucky, See CURTIS MAYS STUDIO We are honored that we were chosen to do the senior photography for the Carlisle County COMET TRAILSEND TRUCK STOP MR.
