Her Interest in her students and her eagerness to help them have endeared her to all who have come under her influence. Because she means so much to so many, we, the students of C.C.H.S. dedicate the 1964 Comet to Mrs. Golda Mathis. People Who Are Themselves Dedicated During our high school years there have been many times when we have needed help and guidance. It was during these times that we found we could always depend on Mr. Mathis; whenever we have needed advice this man could always be counted on to give us wise counsel and the answers to our ques- tions. He has taught us good citizenship, respect, and honor in addition to helping us gain unity as a class. To you, Mr. Mathis, we, the class of 1964, dedicate the Comet, in return for the priceless gifts of knowledge and inspira- tion you have bestowed upon us. Students Can Choose Among Applied Arts and Business BUSINESS In business courses, students prepare themselves for jobs of the future as well as for their own use. INDUSTRIAL ARTS Here, in Mr. Wilson's shop class future builders work skillfully on various projects for individual use. HOME ECONOMICS We learn by doing; and here, girls strive to learn the art of cooking, sew- ing and running a home by doing in Students Are Constantly Learning in Language Classes FRENCH In French, students learn to appreciate and understand the knowledge of customs and cultures of other countries as well as our own English language. ENGLISH English is a challenge to everyone. Here, students are analyzing English structure. They voice their ideas and opinions as well as ask questions. SPEECH Speech is a vital organ in our every- day life. Furthering our speaking ability requires will and determination. A Knowledge of Happenings Old and New Is Vital WORLD HISTORY World History gives students a chance to express ideas and suggest new ones about the history of people and civili- zations of yesteryear. LIBRARY STUDY As it is with history, words and defi- nitions change and new ones are formed. Here, Mrs. Edrington shows the fresh- man English class the use of the diction- ary to find new words and definitions. 11 AMERICAN GOVERNMENT Leadership is important in our world today and leaders are made from such classes as this government class. Here, these students are shown demonstrating a modern day trial. Students Are Endlessly Working and Training CHORUS We are very lucky to have such a devoted leader and pianist as Miss Graves, who spends her time preparing her students for their many demonstrations throughout the year. to Prepare Themselves for the Future. AGRICULTURE HEALTH It is no longer the little farmer but the big farmer in big business. Here, future farmers learn the latest methods and tech- niques of modern farming. Health students strive to learn the right way to keep their body in perfect condition. By learning these essential body health rules they will be prepared for the future. IN MEMORIAM We cannot bring this yearbook to a close without taking note of the most memorable day of our school year . . . Two telephone calls from patrons in the community and the dreadful words, The President has been shot! passes from student to student. A stunned student body and faculty wait silently as transistor radios are brought from lockers and as cars with radios are pulled in front of the building so that the latest words on the President’s condition may be heard. From these same radios just seconds later is heard the official proclamation of the President’s death. Each of the 310 students is left heavy hearted by the tragic news of the assas- sination of the President. ’’Unbelievablel’’ was the comment most often heard that rainy afternoon - no one could believe that a man’s life, so respected and admired by the American people, could be taken away at a moment’s notice. . . . This segment of history will be in our minds and hearts for the remainder of our lives . . .1:00 P.M., November 22, 1963. We believe a greater man will never live in the hearts of our young people of today and leaders of tomorrow than the man who died working for his country. We dedicate this page to a great man, one who only wanted the best for his country.
