Psychology Club ' s program featured a lecture on hypnodontia, or the use of hypnosis in dental surgery. Illustrating by slides and spectacular demonstrations. Dr. Brusletter showed how a patient could undergo an operation without pain or fear M ' ith no other an- esthetic than that provided by his own mind in hyp- notic trance. Dr. Charles C. Mierow, professor of biography at Carleton since 1934, this year concluded his work in the classroom; his position as friend and guide for hun- dreds of students will, however, remain unchanged. Holder of the first chair in biography in the academic world, he has devoted his time to leading crowded classes in the study of great men in a free humanistic manner. Dr Mierow reached the end of some twenty years of work with the publishing in March of his translation, The Deeds of Frederick Barbarossa, the first English version of a twelfth century Latin work. The book has long been the chief source for information on Frederick ' s reign. Dr. Mierow advises his students 25
