In the fall of 1961, a rugged group of bold mountaineers started up the slope of the uncon- quered mountain of knowledge. Mrs. Wiebe signed on as head mountaineer. The assault group consisted of Shirley Argent, Bruce Bellamy, Joan Brandt, Patty Bruhn, Judy Green, Bobbi Haden feldt, Ronnie Harder, Ronnie Hargens, Ted Helzer, Connie Argent, Connie Kirk, Kay Larsen, Steve Larson, Francis Luhn, Gary Luhn, Linda Myers, Betty Powers, Glenda Schuett, Everett Schwartz, Jim Schultz, Norman Sekutera, Merna Stutzman, Robyn Thesenvitz, Rex Veeder, Greg Libby, Dwane Vickstrom, Sheryl Waddington, Vicki Wicht, and Jeannette Sutliff. Lead- ers were: Rex, Bobbi, Judy, Betty and Steve. After a short while, we lost Jeannette after she stubbed her toe on a rock. After a steep climb up the treacherous precipice, we were joined by Juanita Vaith and Gene Heupel who had been separated from another party, also a crusading fanatic named Den- nis Baasch and a shy fellow named Fred Krewson. We lost Greg Libby to the abominable snow- man. Mr. Crowl helped pull, and our leaders were: Bobbi, Juanita, Betty, Linda, and Dwane. We stopped for a while to please Mr. Westcott with Our Town and to feast at the Days of Wine and Roses with some enthused Romans. Two members, Juanita and Gene, slipped and plummeted from the slope. Leaders were: Linda, Robyn, Betsy, and Everett. As we approached the last leg of the climb we stopped to regroup; and Everett and Joan were playing and fell off the Northwest slope. But hooked on the horn of a ram was Tim Field- er, who joined us. Mrs. Stevens pulled the ropes for the final ascent, and the leaders were: Bobbi, Fred, Sheryl, and Tim. So having climbed our first mountain, we were wined and dined by some admiring flatlanders and went in search of yet another conquest. (?1 za 'Poem WHICH ONE Which one of us can say — as the time has passed which hour of these fleeting years we will remember best. All have watched and seen life come. All have listened ... while real life has begun. By Rex Veeder
