Rich, who has arrived by now, tells us that the present mayor of New York is a former class- mate, Don Fowler. Rich says that he believes that Don's success is largely due to his eloquence as a speaker. Don and his wife, Carolyn, are living in the mayor's mansion. The next day we prepare to leave for home, but we decide to drive back to Los Angeles. Since Clarann and I have become rather sentimental from the renewal of old friendships, we resolve to visit Cairo, our home town. We are just outside the city limits of Indianapolis when we notice a poster which states that the speed-way is holding a spectacular dare-devil show the next day. Since we are avid fans of car racing, we can not pass up the opportunity to see this show. The main attraction of the show is Reckless Robby and his crew. The voice of the announcer gives pertinent facts about Reckless Robby before the show begins. We find that Reckless Robby's full name is Robert Hendrickson, who is a top contender for the world speed record. During the show a slight mishap occurs, and Bob is taken to the hospital. Clarann and I are interested in Bob's condition, so we proceed to the hospital. As we enter Bob's room, we find his wife, Pat, at his bedside. Pat tells us that Bob, who is still dazed, is not seriously injured. As we are leaving Bob's room after a short visit with him, we meet a patrolman at the door. We find that he is an old classmate, Dickie Helzer. Dickie tells us that he works at the speed- way and has been assigned to investigate the accident. We continue on our way to Nebraska without any more stops. Once in Nebraska we stay in Omaha overnight. That night in our hotel room we happen to read the headline story in the OMAHA WORLD HERALD. The headline story is about a new jet plane which is to be tested soon at Offut Air Force Base. The test pilot is a former classmate, Gary Anderson, who is a renowned jet ace. We visit with Gary the next day. Gary tells us that Leon Hinkson, an old friend, is now married to Trudy McCauley, who was a former classmate. He also says that the Hinksons are living in Texas. Clarann and I decide to go to Texas to see them. As we approach Broken Bow, we see a huge sign over a ranch yard gate which reads, Ben's B-B. We decide to investigate. Our suspicious are correct; Ben Armour, a former classmate, is the owner of this majestic spread which covers 10, 000 acres. Ben tells us that he also owns a Piper Cub Plane in which he makes trips to Grand Island to pick up supplies for his neighbors and himself. From Broken Bow we head to Texas where Trudy and Leon are living. Just outside of Mule- shoe, we see a rancher and his wife riding horseback. The riders halt and we ask about Trudy and Leon. To our surprise Trudy and Leon are the riders. They invite us to their ranch house for supper and to meet their six boys. By the way, the Hinkson ranch is now larger than the famed King Ranch. We are now homeward bound. We arrive in Los Angeles, and I leave Clarann at her home. My next stop is at my office where I see a sailor who is just turning to leave. I call to the sailor, and he turns. Once again I am surprised for the sailor is Roger Burry. Roger needs my services for a slight case of seasickness. After treating Roger, I receive an emergency call. One of the Los Angeles Rams has been seriously injured when he was tackled. I prepare to go to the hospital. By the way, Marvin Welty is the present coach of the Rams, who have not lost one game since Marv began to coach them. Later that afternoon when I, Rita Waddington, am at my office, I think about my recent trip. Memories of things gone by crowd into my mind with happy thoughts of renewed friend- ships.
