Class Mis tory In the fall of 1955, twenty-one willing, eager freshmen climbed aboard the rocket ship, Success, bound for the planet, Reality. The crew members were Benny Armour, Judy Baird, Roger Burry, Don Fowler, Ann Giffen, Richard Hadenfeldt, Clarann Harb, Carol Harders, Carolyn Hawk, Dick Helzer, Bill Holley, Ronald Jakubowski, Loren Kennel, Trudy McCauley, Janice Meyer, Tom Minor, Earl Reed, Sandra Schlund, Rita Waddington, Marvin Welty, and Dick Worman. At the helm were Ann Giffen, Trudy McCauley, Janice Meyer, Judy Baird, and Rita Wad- dington. During the first year Dennis Lorance joined our crew and Dick Worman transferred to another rocket ship. Before the beginning of our second year Dennis Lorance transferred to a foreign missile. During the course of our second year Rodney Miller joined our crew. Jim Anderson visited our rocket for two weeks. Bill Holley, Loren Kennel, and Tom Minor were lost in space. This year those at the controls were Rita Waddington, Ronald Jakubowski, Rodney Miller, and Richard Hadenfeldt. During the third year we gained two crew members. They were Gary Anderson and Uinda LeBeau. Ronald Jakubowski decided the going was too rough and was left at the nearest space station. This year our able commanders were Richard Hadenfeldt, Rodney Miller, Ann Giffen, Janice Meyer, and Roger Burry. We landed on a man-made planet called Dream where we gave our junior play Coveralls. ” While there we also held the Junior-Senior Banquet, which had the theme of An Evening in Paris. During the summer of '58 Linda LeBeau, Carol Harders, and Sandra Schlund became air sick and were left at a nearby planet. At the beginning of our fourth year in space we were hailed by a space taxi. The passenger, Robert Hendrickson, became a new crew member. Our commanders for the last lap of our journey were Rodney Miller, Janice Meyer, Ann Giffen, Trudy McCauley, and Rita Waddington. Towards the end of our journey we stopped at the satellite called Hope where we gave our senior play. We were also honored at the Junior-Senior Banquet before continuing on our way. In the spring of our fourth year we reached our goal. Reality, and were awarded honors for skill and bravery. But our story has not ended, it has just begun. We, the Cairo High School Seniors of 1959, in the county of Hall and in the state of Nebraska, being of sound mind, do hereby make this our last will and testament. To Mr. Nelson, we will next year's math class in hopes that they will be as brainy as we were. To Mr. Hohnstein, we will our ability to keep from reading library books in the study hall. To Mr. Hashman, we will next year’s football team in hopes that it has a lot of weight. To Miss Platt, we will our ability to keep quiet and study during assembly. To Mrs. Ley, we will our ink erasers because she didn't let us use them in typing class. To Miss Link, we will the phrases, he don't and they was, in hopes that she may become used to them. To Harold, the faithful janitor, we will our sincere appreciation for the hard work he has done keeping the rooms clean and warm. To next year's freshmen, we will all our onions, turnips, spinach, and other things they don't like. To next year's sophomores, we will our ability to initiate the freshmen properly. To next year's juniors, we will all of those wonderful, old history text books. May they burn them all. To next year’s seniors, we will our nice, smooth desks, the rattley windows, the fire escape door, and everything else that goes with our side of the assembly. I, Carolyn Hawk, will all of the boys in Superior, Nebraska, to Roylene Hahs. May she find one she really likes. I, Gary Anderson, will my ability to drive well to my brother, Darrel. I really don't think he needs it as badly as I do. I, Rodney Miller, will my ability to stay home at night to Wilber Spiehs. I, Trudy McCauley, will my ability to go steady to VeRue Dunlap. I, Rita Waddington, will my ability to quite frequently keep late hours to Irene Suida. May she have as much fun as I did. I, Bob Hendrickson, will my ability to go right home after school to James Johnson. I. Dickie Helzer, will my ability to write out and hand in excuses to Roger Luft. I, Marvin Welty, will my size and ability to play football to LeRoy Johnson. I, Roger Burry, will my ability to get along with all girls to Gary Waddington. I probably need it worse than he does. I, Earl Reed, will my great height and my muscular build to Herbert Harb. I, Ann Giffen, will my ability to get along without boys to Paula Cobb. I, Janice Meyer, will my ability to drive safely to Sandy Brundage. I, Benny Armour, will my study habits at school and home to Leslie Brundage. May he profit from them as I did. I, Clarann Harb, will my great talking and laughing ability to Mildred Snider. I, Richard Hadenfeldt, will my ability to conquer geometry and algebra to my sister Joan. She's going to need it. I, Judy Baird, will my ability to dance to Rebecca Widman and I hope it improves with practice. I, Don Fowler, will my big, shiny nose to my little sister Norma Joy. Please help her keep it out of other peoples' business. I have been invited to attend a medical convention in New York City. This convention is to be held to review the medical advances which were made in the past year, 1969. I plan to attend and ask my laboratory technician, Clarann Harb. to accompany me. Clarann is now the head technician at the leading hospital here in Los Angeles, in addition to being my chief technician. We board a plane which is bound for New York. Soon we arrive at Idlewilde Airport. A new passenger terminal has just been constructed. The beauty of the building is quite astounding, so we inquire about the unique style which is employed. We are told that Rodney Miller, an architect, and Richard Hadenfeldt, a draftsman, worked conjunctly on the plans. Clarann and I then ask about Rod and Rich, as they were former classmates. We are told that they reside in New York City now. The next day we attend the convention. The guest speaker is Ann Marie Giffen, who is head of the anthropology department at Harvard. Ann, a former classmate, is the first woman to have the privilege to teach at Harvard. We have an enjoyable talk with Ann later. After the convention is closed, we plan to visit with Rod and Rich. We ask a taxi cab driver to take us to the address which we were told was Rod's. Soon we drive up in front of a stately mansion. At the door we are met by someone who appears familiar. It is Janice Meyer, who is now Mrs. Rodney Miller. Jan also teaches nursery school. Jan and Rod tell us that Rich plans to call later in the evening. They tell us that Rich is the father of two fine boys. Jan and Rod are the parents of two adorable sets of twins. That night as we are watching television, a familiar show, Keep Talking, ” comes on the air. They have a new guest star, Judy Baird, tonight. You can be assured, Judy is a huge suc- cess as she still has her wonderful gift of gab. (Cont. on Page 14)
