While so close we decided to drive on to Cairo and see how it had changed. Old faces were gone and new ones had taken their place. So after spending the night at Cairo we left for Denver. After arriving we heard there was to be an opening premier of the movie, Giant , so we decided to attend. When we got there we found out that the star was Betty Spiehs. We sent cards back-stage and were invited back after the show to visit her leading man, Elvis Presley. We had a nice visit with Betty and Elvis after the show. We found out that Leona Schweitzer was now a head nurse at the Fitzsimonns Hospital in Denver. We called on Leona and had a nice visit with her while we had lunch together. Then we headed on our way to Los Angeles to take in the Olympic tryouts. While in L. A. we took in some of the sights. We then went out to watch the Olympic tryouts. In the mile run we recognized John Holley, who was to represent the United States in the Olympics. While visiting with John, he told us that Shirley Stoeger was also living in Los Angeles. Shirley was now married to Quintin Nitsch, who had new ideas on the new 1968 automobiles. When we called on her, Shirley invited us to stay for dinner. We had a very nice visit with the Nitsch family. Don Hadenfeldt was next on our list. Don is now the owner of the Lockheed Aircraft Corp. , in Burbank. One of Don's top advisers was Jack Hadenfeldt, who was married to Karen Rathman. We were invited out to Karen's home and here we had a nice visit with all of the Hadenfeldts. Incidentally Jack and Karen now have two children in their Happy Family. And this ended our trip. Many memories were brought back to us as we met and visited with each of our old Classmates. Class Prophecy Lt. Sam Reed had just returned from Europe where he had spent five years in the N.A.T.O. forces. At the airport to meet him was his wife, Carol and a former classmate and friend, Jim Sorensen. I, Jim Sorensen, a sportswriter for the Los Angeles Tribune was in N. Y. t- cover a championship fight. After arriving I had heard about Lt. Reed's return and decided to see him. While visiting with Sam at his apartment I told him why I had come to N. Y. While talking we decided to take a pleasure trip through the U. S. and look up former classmates. After I had finished my business, we attended the Arthur Godfrey show one morning. Appearing as the singing star was Betty Caswell, a very popular personality in New York City. Besides being very popular in N. Y., she also had hit records all over the rest of the country. After having a nice visit with Betty, we flew to Yale U. where we had heard that Kent Powers was attending school. After we had arrived, we were surprised to find out that Kent was in a hospital. While visiting with him he told us what had happened. While in the lab trying to discover a new medicine his experiment had blown up in his face and almost completely demolished the lab. When we left he was progressing very satisfactorily from his injury. Detroit was our next stop and here we visited the former Virginia Swanson, who was now married to the famous band leader, Jimmy Adams. While there, we attended his show and had a nice visit with him and Virginia. From Detroit we went down to Chicago, where we visited with Elda Schweitzer, who was now secretary to the Governor of Illinois, Mr. Larry Spotanski. We then flew on to Omaha. In Omaha after reading the paper, we decided to attend the big football game that night between, Omaha U. and Nebraska Wesleyan U. The opposing coaches were very familiar to us; our former coach at Cairo, Louis Hagan was now coach at Omaha U. and Wayne Johnson was now coach at Nebraska Wesleyan U. We had a nice visit with both of them and their families after the game. Incidentally the game for the league championship ended in a tie 14-14. We had heard that Laberta Schweitzer Wfis now a teacher at the University in Lincoln. We stopped in Lincoln and had a nice visit with her at her home on the campus grounds. From Lincoln we decided to go to Grand Island to see how the city had grown. As we were driving to Grand Island, we were stopped by a Patrolman, who told us that we were breaking the speed limit. He looked very familiar to us and we soon recognized him as Jerry Johnson. Jerry had now obtained the rank of First Sergeant in the Nebraska State Patrol because of out-standing service. He invited us to his home and we had a nice visit with him and his wife.
