JUNIGR GIRLS JUNIOR CLASS HISTURY On September 4- the Junior Class entered Caribou High School for their third year eagerly anticipating the arrival of their class rings. On November 13 after the class elected their officers and advisors, they decided to use the representative system again this year. Each Junior home room elected two representatives to attend all class meetings, set up dates for activities and working schedules. Early in the fall the class held a twirp dance with music by a disc jockey. When the basketball games started, the class sold refreshments. During the Mardi Gras which was held February 14- and 15, the Juniors pitched in to help the Jaycees by checking coats at the coronation ball. They also sold refresh- ments at the teenage Jam Session and dance held Saturday the Fifteenth. Junior Exhibition tryouts were held the 18 and 19 of February. Those chosen to represent the class by speaking were Danny Brewer, Loyce Monteith, Jack Abbott. Doreen McCluskey, Barry Haskell, Artheline Buzzell, Gary Harris, and Joanne Burleigh. Firs! row: N. The purpose of the organization is to prepare students for a career in education and to help them decide if they want teaching as a profession. To exercise its purpose, F.T.A. sponsors a practice-teaching and an observing program through which members go into classes where juniors and seniors teach, and sophomores observe. F.T.A. has a significant pin which is attained by means of a point system. Fifty points are required to obtain the pin. The club has been quite active this year. lt the fall the club went to Aroostook State Teachers College in Presque Isle to see a film on the steps in college to a teaching profession. Other activities planned are a oint meeting with Fort Kent, and attendance of the club at the annual F.T.A. conference in Falmouth. President ................. ,................ The 1957-58 Viking squad was the greatest basketball team in Caribou's history. During the regular season's play they won 16 games to one defeat and averaged 80.2 points a game to their oppositions 58.4. In the Eastern Maine Basketball Tournament Caribou defeated Skowhegan, Bangor, and Brewer in well-played and hard-fought battles. This was the seventh entry for Caribou in the Eastern Maine Tournament. Five times they were knocked out in the first round. Last year the Vikings won their first game and defeated Bangor in the consolation game. This was the first Eastern Maine Championship for Caribou High School. This also was the first victory for a county team in 26 years. Presque Isle won the tourna- ment in 1932. Everyone is proud of this team for the terrific season they have played. Although they lost the state finals to South Portland. they are still a great team, deserving of much respect. Much credit must be given to Coach Ed Walsh for the wonderful coaching job he has done since he came to Caribou. This was his fourth year with the Vikings, and they have won the Aroostook County Championship three times under his guiding hands. The Maroon and White have also been in the Eastern Maine Tournament the past two years. The Vikings set several team and individual scoring records during the season. The Vikings set a new county high of 112 points in one game. The Vikings set a high mark of 90 points for one game in the Eastern Maine Tournament. They also set a new high 235 points in three games at the tournament. Pete Kelley set a county record of 56 points in one game. In the tournament he set a record of 84 points for three games. Kelley also set a new record of 285 points in the county for ten games.
