THE 1986 YEARBOOK DEDICATION We the class of 1986, the hundredth class of Carey High School, dedicate sixty-second Caryatid to Douglas W. Myers. As a boy, Mr. Myers grew up on the West side of Columbus and graduated from West High School in Columbus. After High School he attended the Ohio State University. During his college years, Mr. Myers went into the army for three years and five months. One year was served in Japan with the first occupational troops. He finished college, majoring in science and social studies. He received his master's degree at Toledo University and did some additional work at Ohio State. His first teaching job was at Maumee High School. During his thirty years at Carey School, he has accomplished many things to be proud of: Early in the 1960’s he opened a classroom for the severely handicapped in a storeroom in downtown Carey. This eventually lead to Angeline School. In 1965, he was able to establish a special class in the Carey building for EMR. All of this was accomplished with little or no state support. Mr. Myers is also proud of the building program which was voted in 1961 and completed in 1963. This building program included: A new gym, an art room, a chemistry lab, a physics lab, and a vo-ag department in the high school. In the elementary building new additions included: A multi-purpose room, a media center room, and a kindergarten room. Mr. Myers' wife, Eloise recently retired from teaching. Their three children also have teaching careers. David is a teacher at Mohawk, Susan teaches in the Findlay City School system, and Lynn Dee is a kindergarten teacher at Carey. Mr. Myers retired as superintendent January 1, 1986. He accomplished many things in his years at Carey. Thank you for your time and concern at Carey. We wish you well in your retirement. CLASS OF 1986 Mr Myers in the Army Mr. Myers with his son, David. 2 Dedication
