Just as our school life is a step- ping stone to our careers, so, when pensive moods take us in retro- spect to days post, the Caryatid will let us live again in those four golden years of work, play, and pleasant associations. We have spent four years courageously ascending to the top of this ladder. During the as- cension, a few of our classmates have dropped out and have been left along the way. Several have joined the armed forces. A ln this our Senior year, we chose Lloyd Hill, President, Donald Krebs, Vice-President, and Barbara Johnson, Secretary, to lead us up the last rungs of the ladder. Also, we have been faithfully encouraged and advised by Miss Smith. We are greatly indebted to her. l We chose for our class colors, American Beauty and White, and American Beauty Roses for our class flower. We have had many dances this year including a Sadie Hawkins Day dance. Our class hod two parties which were very successful. One was a Christmas party and the other was a Valentine party. We are hoping to have several more before the year is over. We are also looking forward to the Junior-Senior banquet and prom before we reach the top of the ladder. NA esidem, mes. We proved very successful despite the difficulties which we have had to meet. During the past year, we have had four different directors, Mr. Parfitt, who is patriotically helping his parents with the farm work, Mr. Assenheimer of Upper Sandusky kindly directed our band during the summer, Mr. Toms is now faithfully serving in the United States Army, and at the present time we are very fortunate to have as our director Mr. Sutphen, who directed the Tole- do school bands for several years. We represented Carey last fall at the Wyandot County fair by marching in the parade and playing in front of the grandstand. We increased our marching tempo to a very lively gait. We supported our team at every home football game, proudly being led by our head drum ma- jorette, Joyce Snyder. Joyce was assisted by seven other drum majorettes. Although we were small, we were mighty and we went to Upper to that great game and strutted lively down the field forming our formations. The officers elected this year were: President, Barbara Johnson, Vice- President, Donald Krebs, Secretary-Treasurer, Jackie Mapes, Librarian, Ann Shira assisted by Sammy McChesney, Managers, Lloyd Hill and Donald Hill. The band mothers have been a great help to us. They have started a fund for new band uniforms and we are all looking forward. to the time when we are able to obtain them. As a member of the Radio Committee, Mr. Toms was instrumental in using the Chorus for a number of broadcasts. However, Uncle Sam soon laid claim to our instructor. ln the meantime, Miss Jeanne Morris took charge and, incidentally, did a splendid job of it. After the Christmas holidays, Mr. Guy V. Sutphen, formerly from Carey, took over the music department. Our secretary and pianist for this sea- son was Patsy Laird. We feel as the year draws to a climax, that, in spite of unfavorable circumstances, we have accomplished the task which was ours.
