Giles Krupp Wayne Zahn Louise Kemerley Vice President President Secretary ln September of nineteen hundred thirty-eight, seventy eager gobs streamed up the gangplank to board the Good Ship Carey Hi. After getting acclimated in their various quarters under their Commanding officers, Lieutenants Her- bage and Fouts, they began to search for the shortest routes to their destination The lsle of Commencement. To reach this Isle quickly and without any hazards or disastrous results they found it was necessary to study diligent- ly their log books tlessonsl, stay on their selected course by not violating the rules, and relaxing now and then by partaking in various activities: athletics, clubs, parties and such. Robert Wick- ham - President, Paul Smith - Vice President, and Wayne Zahn-Secretary- Treasurer were then elected to lead the gobs. The first season was tough sailing, but they gradually gained confidence in their abilities. After nine months their efforts were rewarded with a leave of three months at one of the ports along the route. The following year found the majority of the gobs impatient to continue their journey. They started out in full sail under the leadership of Commanders Harding and Blose with petty officersg Robert Wickham lst class, Phyllis Ulrich 2nd, and Margaret Martin 3rd class as able assistants. Now they had acquired the abilities of seasoned sailors and displayed their unusual talents in the many different activities aboard ship. To their complete surprise another port was soon sighted and they were ready for another leave. Their journey was resumed after a few months of rest and each week brought them nearer to their destination. This was a voyage of several exciting ad- ventures. Many storms were encoun- tered but the gobs weather them all through the aid of their helpers: the late Harold Brown, President, succeeded by Ruth Heck: Robert Wickham, Vice- President: Paul Smith, Treasurer: Louise Kemerley, Secretary, and the additional help of two more assistants, Catherine Emerine and lack Mulholland as the gobs had undertaken the task of selling candy. The gobs developed a flare for dramatics and produced a play which proved a success. To show they were becoming individually important they received rings as symbols ot their splendid seamanship. The crowning event was the gala affair of the lunior-Senior Banquet to which Uncle Sam lent his colors. After this series of events, the port in view was a welcome sight because it signified another furlough from important duties. CAREY LOAN CO. AND GEO. REMLINGER we
