' At the wheel was Captain Richard Clark, His assistants were: Stanley' Montague - First Nateg Charles Harris-Keeper, of the Loggand Geraldine Simonis -Purser The first few weeks of sailing were very rough and discouraging, especi- ally after receiving our grade cards Could we bear up under it? HOW could our teachers be so cruel? 'hifi-4:1-v.' -.0 SOPHOMORES On September fifth, a group of turbulent youngsters took Room 18 by storm, but under the steady and guiding hand of Kr.Hood, we finally settled down to our responsibility as the Hgay young Sophomoresn of Cnrey High School. The class was reduced somewhat from that of its Freshmen year, several classmates having left our ranks. Our first class -meeting of the year was held and the following officers were e- lected: President,Pauline Heweomerg Vice-President,Ada Mitchellg Secre- tary, Robert Wernerg and Treasurer, Forest Myers. Our Sophomore class furnished its share of football material. Forest Myers, Herman Kitzlcr, Halle Turnbell,and Gaylord Patterson fwho is no longer a student of Carey High Schooll represented us on the field and helped to form our Co- Championship team. Several of the other boys helped to warm the bench, but' gathered no splinters. THE The Sophs, we call them gay, when the call for basketbell went forth, the Sophomore class responded with a large delegation. Forest Myers, Herman Kitzler, and Fnlld' Turnbell made thezvsrsity squad. We sent Hickey Dow, Psuline Newcomer,Dorcas Baker,Ade Kitchell, Margaret Wenzinger,Mary E.Iontegue, and Ruth Yullholand to represent us in girls' basketball. Those musically inclined made their share of noise in the Bend, Orches1ra, and Glee Club. All was not plsy, however, and before long we found it was neces- sary to settle down and put forth that hard and earnest labor which leads to success. Our Sophomore year has been filled with thrills end spills, nevertheless,we are looking forward with breathless anticipation to the tism: when we shall be announced ms Carey High Juniors. -Eileen Kirkwood SOPHS At their work and at their play, While at work they do their best, When at play their minds do rest. How could We in our daily strife Succeed without their gay young life? we like them, each and every one, We much enjoy their mirth and fun. Let's give three rousing cheers for them, They have the pep, courage, and vim, In later years we hope they succeed, In honesty, courage, and every good deed.
